Rhaetian Railway's ABe 4/4 III Electic Motors In Action
The Rhätische Bahn / Rhaetian Railway's ABe 4/4 Cars are single voltage (1,000v DC) so are restricted to working the Bernina Bahn between St Moritz and Tirano (IT)
The cars date from 1988. Footage in this video was captured over a number of trips, and are in location order (Tirano to Pontresina) rather than date. The cars generally work in pairs.
Passenger Trains in Helsinki, 25Jan20
It’s been a year since my last overseas trip. To Europe in celebration of a “big birthday”
These scenes captured during a 24 hour stop-over in Helsinki. Cold but surprisingly no snow!
Diesel Locomotives Captured During 2020
The great variety of diesel locomotives & power car lash-ups passing through North Strathfield on Sydney's Northern Line during 2020.
Taken at and around the station or from my apartment building.
Austrian Trains: Along the Westbahn, New Year’s 2012
Looking back 9 years - my first 3 days of 2012 spent in Austria along the Westbahn.
Train Trip to Zermatt, December 2011
Travelling on Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn’s train R241 12.52 Brig to Zermatt service hauled by HGe4/4 #4.

Steam Locomotives in Action - 2020
My annual look back at the steam action I enjoyed last year.
As can be expected, 2020 was a very quiet year. The hero being 5917, which powered “The Picnic Train” between Sydney & Kiama on many occasions late in the year. 3801 also made appearances on test runs. Hopefully 2021 will be its year.
Rhaetian Railways / Rhatische Bahn "Engadiner Dampfzug
This video is my Christmas present to myself.
To re-live a most wonderful day. A life long wish to travel by steam train through the Swiss Alps. Hopefully I can repeat the experience again one day.
Rhatische Bahn and Club 1889 Steam excursion through the Engadin Valley from Samedan to Scuol-Tarasp and return. 02 February 2020
A Visit To The Brusio Circular Viaduct / Viadotto Elicoidale di Brusio
The Brusio Circular Viaduct / Viadotto Elicoidale di Brusio is located on the Rhaetian Railway / Rhätische Bahn's Bernina Railway, in Switzerland but very close to the Italian Border & city of Tirano.
It is "hallowed ground" for many railfans and is very special to me. Whilst I first travelled over the Viaduct in January 1992, I wanted to experience it from the ground. These scenes are from my visit in September 2014.
It was an easy downhill walk from Brusio station, however the return was quite a hard uphill hike, demonstrating how steep the railway gradient is.
Descending to Göschenen on the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn
The line drops steeply from 1,436m at Andermatt to 1,106m at Göschenen, mostly on rack equipped line. The majority of the line is either in tunnel or show sheds, including the line’s passing loop.
I love this short train trip; feeling like you are going to fall out of your seat, the view of the devil’s bridge and the panorama of Göschenen Bahnhof & the Gotthard Tunnel portal as you arrive.
The line, formerly the Schöllenenbahn, was opened in 1917. It is 3.7km long and runs from Andermatt to Göschenen, where there is a link to the SBB’s Gotthard Railway at the northern end of the Gotthard Rail Tunnel.
A Morning At Cowan (NSW)
Trains captured whilst train watching at Cowan.
Cowan is a railway station on the Main North Railway Line, approximately 49km from Sydney’s Central Station.
Whilst previously the final stop for suburban trains (now terminating at Berowra the station prior), Cowan is now a stop for Central Coast/Newcastle trains, generally hourly.
The bells for the footpath crossing give you warning of trains about to pass. This footpath also forms part of the “Great North Walk”, so many hikers use the station to join/leave the walk.
Four Generations Of Passenger Trains at Sydney’s Central
Rare to see all four at Central at once: - A steam special with non Air-conditioned coaches - Heritage Diesel hauled special with air-conditioned coaches - Regular XPT service - New Intercity Fleet 10 car electric set on a test run
NSW Trainlink “New Intercity Fleet” Under Test.
The New Intercity Fleet (NIF), captured on test runs. Soon to commence replacing both the Intercity V sets and Oscar H sets on services to Newcastle, Lithgow & Kiama.
The trains are being built by a consortium of Hyundai Rotem, UGL Rail & Mitsubishi Electric. The trains being built by Hyundai Rotem in South Korea.
There will be a total of 56 4 car & 55 6 car sets.
Industrial Relation issues have slowed the testing (& no doubt entry into passenger service), as the trains were built for “driver only” operation.
Sydney’s Olympic Park Railway Line.
The Olympic Park line opened in March 1998, prior to the 2000 Olympics.
The line connects with the Main Suburban Railway (aka Sydney’s Western Line) via triangular junctions at Flemington.
Whilst direct services still transport people to & from major events in the park precinct, regular services for park residents and workers are shuttles to Lidcombe station to connect with the rest of the Sydney Trains network.
The line operates as a balloon loop, with a travel time between Lidcombe & Olympic park of 5-6 minutes.
Olympic Park station, built to service large crowds, has 2 tracks with 4 platform faces. The platforms are below ground level, with the line either side underground, built by “cut & cover” method
Montreal - EXO services at Gare Montréal-Ouest
A year ago! Pre-Covid & free to travel when & where we wanted to!
Gare Montréal-Ouest / Montreal West station is a junction on the Canadian Pacific main line in Montreal, seeing services on 3 EXO lines; Vaudreuil-Hudson, Candiac and Saint-Jérôme. Montréal-Ouest is the 2nd stop from the Montreal terminus of Lucien-L’Allier.
