I see a LOT of people approaching coasters as just being Of The Vast.
I am autistic, special interest in coasters, so heres my tired ramblings as to my thoughts+ interpretation.
I actually think, beyond the falling aspect, the vast would rather reject rollercoasters. The tallest - being built as I type in Saudi Arabia - still does not breach 1000ft. They are tiny in the grand scheme of things.
So when i consider Rollercoasters and Fears, to me it depends from coaster to coaster.
For example, Alton Towers has height restrictions meaning that they cannot build anything visible above tree height due to the grounds being historical. So they are most definitely not vast. The tallest is 30m from ground level. There you see a wide range of fears represented. Buried with the 2 nemesis attractions, spiral with smiler [even a little bit eye], dark for Oblivion, end/corruption for 13, hunt for rita.
But rollercoasters as a concept & the fear of them seems to come from fear of The End, The Desolation or the web.
The end - self explanatory. People get the idea that theyre not safe. That theyll fall out, or get hit or whatever. Youre more likely to get struck by lightning twice but go off ig.
Desolation - same type of people who would see coasters as part of The End, but this time they looked up "top 10 most dangerous rollercoasters" and realise that a lot of incidents don't end in death, but end in devastating illness. They don't look at actual reports, mind you, they just think it's thrilling to treat irl tragedies like creepypasta.
The Web - the one most closely related to my specific fear of it. The knowledge that, even though you trust the operator, your life is still in their hands. Knowing theres nothing you can possibly do beyond just sitting back and hoping.
Anyway it is 2am nd ive been awake for 18 hours so i am out

[Final statement, i think Jon would like starflyers, Martin would like a good B&M invert, Tim would like a coaster with a good gimmick (wing coasters, flying coasters), and I wont pretend to know Sasha well enough to assign her one of these. Id probably guess a Mack extreme spinner. If she ever got to experience one]
