Our giant Smithsonian Natural History book was the source of inspiration for some sketching and writing this morning. When Cooper, leafing through, found some fossils, I offered his notebook and a pencil. First, he asked me to draw it for him, so I designated space for each of us. After drawing some small squares, I followed his request and chose a crab fossil, talking through it as I drew, then copied the word “crab” from the book. Cooper eagerly chose the lobster for his drawing and writing. He hasn’t shown a whole lot of interest in writing until recently, and I’ve been patient to not push. But after this, he said, “I like drawing letters.”
