Dyson named this sweet angel Beaky. She crossed my path on my walk and Wasn’t able to fly. It pulled me out of my moment of introspection and into the world around me. We dropped her off at the wildlife rescue in HB this morning and the event got us talking about how easy it is to be consumed with our own thoughts and the blessing there is when we are drawn out. A dear friend of mine is immersing herself in helping those in need right now because she can. Because she cares. Because her feelings about the world weren’t helping the world so she took a new look at her life and her friends and stepped up to care for some people that deeply needed it. I find myself humbled and inspired; it’s helping me and reminding me of so many things that I forget to make a priority when I’m stuck in my anxiety or my pursuits of knowledge. It is often that I fail to see those in need around me. It is easy to feel overwhelmed as a mom, and with our lives still affected by this virus, I am not short on thoughts to ponder, overanalyze and use to assign meaning to it all. BUT one truth is certain... I need to remember LOVE. Love is my guide. Always, LOVE first. When I relentlessly hold myself to a higher and higher standard, or when I then do that to others or my kids... I can interrupt this by simply looking around me with love. I can and I will. I know the boys feel like there is not much they can do to make Covid go away aside from what we are already doing (I certainly feel the truth in that) and yet, it’s not helpful to sit in that constantly and the resulting feelings of helplessness. I hope to be an inspiration to my kids that they won’t always get it right but they can always endeavor to love... always a little more and more. Thank you Beaky for reminding us that we can make a difference and that every single heart beat counts. We are grateful for you! The fact that these kids get to do stuff like this for hours EVERY. SINGLE. DAY... that’s one of the best parts about homeschooling. They’re best friends and I get to witness most of the moments of beauty. I feel so blessed and I am so grateful.
