Podcast Recommendation List.

I have listened to a lot of podcasts in my time and am very annoying about recommending them whenever I am asked (or not asked). This list is very Australia-centric (i.e. ABC = Australian Broadcasting Corporation) and will be updated as my podcast library broadens.

Pop Culture.

Finding Drago/Finding Desperado (ABC) - thrilling investigation into the shadowy figure of Todd Noy, whose great tome 'Drago: on mountains we stand' has inspired people from the beaches of Chala to a recording studio in Sydney, Australia.

If Books Could Kill / You're Wrong About / Maintenance Phase - the Michael Hobbes 'you're wrong about' extended universe. About misconceptions, social narratives, and wellness culture. If you like this universe you'll probably also like '5-4', 'Cancel Me Daddy' and 'American Hysteria'.

Digital Folklore - an immersive documentary podcast about the stories we tell each other on the internet. It kind of spirals at the end but the early episodes are good and unlike anything else I’ve listened to!

Comedy & Fiction.

Beef and Dairy Network Podcast (Maximum Fun) - a fictional podcast for those involved, or just interested in, the production of beef animals, and dairy herds. Well executed absurdist comedy.

Dungeons and Daddies (not a BDSM podcast) - comedy D&D podcast about four dads rescuing their sons in the forgotten realms. Season 1 and 3 are my faves.

Dragon Friends - comedy D&D podcast recorded in front of live audiences with live musical accompaniment. Featuring notable Australian comedians.

Midnight Burger: a wholesome found family audio drama about a time travelling, dimension spanning diner.

Other fiction loves of mine: Absolutely No Adventures, Mabel, The Magnus Archives.

True Crime/Law.

Bad People (BBC Sounds) - True crime stories told to discuss human nature and psychology.

The Missing Crypto Queen (BBC Sounds) - about a crypto currency ponzi scheme.

5-4 - about how the US supreme court sucks (left wing perspective).

Ben-Roberts Smith V. The Media (The Guardian) - about the most important Australian defamation trial of this decade.

The Case Of (formerly Mushroom Case Daily; ABC) - reporting on court proceedings in interesting Australian cases. Initially this podcast was a daily recap of the famous Mushroom poisoning case in Australia, but continued on after the completion of that to other current cases.

Investigative Reporting/History.

The Greatest Menace (Audible Original) - about historical policing of homosexuality in Australia (tw for police violence, homophobia).

Background Briefing (ABC) - the best Australian investigative reporting podcast.

Slow Burn (Slate) - American political history podcast.

gonna start answering different genders on every form, just to dilute the accuracy of information about me out there. that’s he/him for data obscuration purposes.

there's this hallway in the place i'm working at that is just a bunch of photos and paintings of old nuns from times gone by and usually i would be enamoured with such a display and tribute to women but it really is giving me the heebie jeebies because the entire corridoor is white and there's a white bust of a nun and when you walk through there it's like the room is glowing back at you. there are no windows, just bright LED lights. i have to walk through quickly because i feel my soul may be judged and thrown into hellfire if i linger too long.

extremely pleased with my op shop purchases today, which include a funky pair of yellow rollie shoes with only moderately worn soles, a cookbook full of cake recipies by a guy i've never heard of, and a dvd copy of now defunct bbc program george gently season 3. a delightful saturday outing.
