An unproduced television series from legendary producer Gerry Anderson is finally set to materialise – as a novel!
From the late 1950s through to the mid-2000s, Anderson created or co-created a string of iconic family adventure series including Thunderbirds, Stingray, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons and Space:1999.
One planned project, Intergalactic Rescue 4, was pitched to US broadcaster NBC…

Here’s something unexpected for fans of Gerry Anderson (Thunderbirds, UFO, Space: 1999, etc.). In the mid-1970s (around the time he was producing Space: 1999), Anderson came up with an idea for another TV series that has been described as “Thunderbirds meets Lost in Space”. It was never made (likely due to Space: 1999 taking up Anderson’s time before he stepped away from TV production for a while after it was cancelled, only to return in the early 80s with Terrahawks), but I guess his notes or whatever were recently rediscovered and have been adapted into a new novel.
Only a limited number of copies of this are being printed right now, so for the Anderson fan who thought they’d seen/read everything, this seems to be a nice addition (and goes along nicely with other Anderson-based novels including the novelization of the never-made introductory episode of Space Precinct (that depicted how Brogan and Haldane ended up at Demeter City to begin with), and the novelization of the “Day After Tomorrow” TV movie (which was followed by an original sequel continuing that story).
Big Finish has of late been doing audio dramas based on Anderson’s shows (Terrahawks being a prime example); it’ll be interesting to see if they pick up on this.
