Tsuzuku was released on the occasion of the Minä Perhonen retrospective held at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo in 2019 celebrating the designer's 25th anniversary. Akira Minagawa established the Minä Perhonen, which is Finnish for ‘I am a butterfly’ , fashion and textile brand in 1995. Marking its 25th anniversary, this exhibition catalogue centres around the multiple meanings of the term tsuzuku: beginning, ending, enhancing, returning, mind, and shape. Featuring a rich array of textiles, garments, interior goods, and tableware, as well as original design drawings, video projects, and illustrations, the publication explores Minagawas thinking and practice, wherein the production of value for both the maker and user is key. Through expressing creative, universal values, the brand also considers the meaning of producing and the relationship between design and society today.
