Review: Internal Devour - "Stench of Flesh" (Pre-Production)
By HarveyDjent
Man, for a pre-pro (or BREE-BROOO?? Hurr hurr hurr) track, this is pretty fucking crazy. All the vocal clarity you could ask for, the drums come at you like machine gun fire from a 12 year old playing CoD... and dat riffage, mane. Think old-school Job for a Cowboy.
Now the guitar in this song is nothing amazing, but it definitely does what it's supposed to do. It's fast, full of tasty licks, and it achieves that quick, ominous, heaviness you want from slam. Drum wise, this song certainly holds its' own. The drums suit perfectly, the blasts are spot on and the double kicking kicks ass. Once again, it won't blow your mind, but it's fine for standard deathwhatever drumming.
The vocals are great, a little on the pig-squeally side of things, but the actual word definition and pronunciation is great. If you give the lyrics a read it's actually easy to make out what's being sung. This guy's definitely got some chops, but at the same time I really think he should have changed it up a bit and tried something new, rather than sticking to the same shit that's been done about a million times before.
Now, as decent as this song is, it does have a couple little drawbacks. Internal Devour definitely stick to the "br00tz buzzwords" that most heavy bands go out of their way to include in songs (worthless, abomination, host, demise, corpse, Torn in half and ripped apart, skin split and throats slit, inside out ready to be eaten, etc. etc. etc.) and it seems they brought back the old school TAIM misogynistic lyric set too (Cheating sluts I live to cut you up, Your still lying to me you fucking cunt, Sorry doesn't work on me you slut)... But I mean, c'mon. If you actually take that shit seriously and start having a whinge about lyrics like these, you're into the wrong kind of music + you should remove the pole from your ass and go suck Tipper Gores' dick.
Another little complaint I have is the "Buy Now - name your price" option... I mean it's cool that you guys are letting people pay what they want, but who wants to pay for a pre-pro track? Give it out for free and then let people pay for the finished product! Way better marketing.
But ANYWAY, here's the tl;dr, you weeping bags of puss: Overall great track for pre-pro (that's pre-production, as in it hasn't been mixed and mastered yet for you non-musical peeps), the drums, whilst pretty stock standard, are still great and do their job fine. The guitar also does the job, typical slam stuff, but done well. The track is 'buy at your own price' if you guys are interested in paying for an unmixed song, but at the same time it's a pretty well recorded unmixed song so you really won't be disappointed in the sound quality at all. This band has great potential and I can see them getting pretty popular in heavy music circles, IF they start going out of their way to do more original-sounding slam. Don't do what's already been done, guys.
