Theres a lot of psychology around how ppl behave in groups and lose their individuality and say and do things they wouldn't normally - mob mentality, follow the leader and all that. On the internet it that must be magnified hugely because ppl already feel anonymous, they don't even need the group for that feeling of anonymity, so when you already have that and then find a likeminded bunch of ppl who mirror and reinforce or encourage their shitty opinions, well its gonna end badly
Yeah, I know, because of... my work... that I won’t speak about not to appeal to authority (because I can be anything, but at least I’m not a larrie.) But group dynamics have a lot to do with it, and there are also trolls, that are steppe wolves that act alone, like postmodern Harry Hallers, though it’s sort the same issue. Fanaticism and nihilism aren’t something new, but for a fact they’re taking new shapes and reaching new dimensions due to Internet and social media. It’s like pitchforking 2.0.
