Screenshots of the ILOVEYOU virus, created in the 2000′s and considered to be one of the first early worms to gain widespread media notoriety. It spread across the internet by masquerading as an emailed “love letter” from an acquaintance. If opened, the attached .vbs file would copy itself, add files to your registry, and send copies through IRC and email. Producing over 15 billion in damages overall (and 5.5 billion in the first week alone) the suspected creator of the virus, Onel de Guzman-- was unable to be prosecuted due to insufficient evidence and lack of computer espionage laws in the Philippines at that time. Guzman would not confirm or deny his involvement with the creation of the virus, and maintains that mystery to this day. Source Source 2
