The Wisdom of Zhuge Liang – Leading and Knowing People ~ Lord Josh Allen
One thing that I immensely dislike is confrontation, but I also hate agreeing with people just to 'keep the peace'. This is why I prefer to talk to people about things we agree with and avoid discussing things we don't. Like there are people who can use the strategy 'agree with other person to get along' or 'argue vehemently to try to convince the other person for their case', but I can't really use either without having some really maladaptive responses to that. I mean, not that either of those are necessarily always healthy in and of themselves, but I know there are people who feel more comfortable at one or the other side of that response spectrum. Whereas I pretty much hate doing either.
What does it mean if a man calls you a goddess? He thinks you're very pretty and probably like you too. (Find your love here)
What a sordid system the casual dating scene is. It contains no love; it is only a network of noncommittal narcissists always trying to trick each other into having relations.
When stealing is not stealing-- pirated movies
Piracy of movies has been condemned as theft, but is it really stealing? Stealing is defined as taking another's property without permission or intention to return it. The general principle behind this as a wrong action is that something is lost by the victim of the theft: either real property, respect, or potential gains. Certainly, movie piracy does not deprive the originators of their original movie. Nor does it deprive them of respect; indeed it maintains a desire to watch movies produced by that originator (A separate respect, that for the movie's distributors, might be lost, but the customers weren't coming for the distributor's sake-- their customership to the distributors is one with theirs to the originators). The main issue is the movie pirates' supposed deprivation of the originators' potential profit. However, if the movie pirates did not have the money to pay to see the movie legitimately, then there would have been no potential profit from them anyway; the only difference is that the movie pirates get to see the movie. Therefore, poor movie pirates are a financial neutrality to the movie originators. On the other hand, if the movie pirates did have the money to see the movie legitimately, then they do constitute a loss of potential gain for the movie originators. Regardless of the immediate financial impact of the movie piracy, the movie originators may gain customer respect no matter who is watching the movie. Does this fact alone justify the financially capable movie pirates? No, because these pirates are still a relative financial loss to the gain the originators could have gotten from them as paying customers. The poor movie pirates are still justified because they do not effect the movie originators even by loss of potential profit.
Let there be a distinction between well-intentioned (if ill-informed) objective criticism and genuine bullying. Bullying is defined as the use of superior strength or influence to intimidate or coerce. One should consider the speaker's intention when conspiring their words, not only the emotional effect that the recipient may subjectively experience. Many explanations exist for harsh behavior, from personal insecurity to misplaced levity to deliberate malice (for which there are likely specific reasons which may yet be resolved) to pragmatism. One should impersonally consider the validity of the opinion presented by the speaker and decide what should be done in light of the new information concerning both the point that the "bully" was trying to make, that is, what its bearing is on reality, and the speaker's reasoning and motivation. Be open to improving all aspects of the situation.
