         We’re already physically affectionate enough, according to Wookiepedia. I figured to give us that authenticity, I’d add more as a cushion just in case we couldn’t pull off other married couple things.

Scanning wedding rituals on the holo-net, the ever-practical man clears his throat. ❝ We’re going to need matching rings. Since I don’t have a surname, I’ll take yours. We’ll have to be 13 percent more affectionate, at least according to this article. There might be endearments involved, uh, sugar pie. ❞ Look, give him a break. He has a few days in transpo to work on it.

       ❝ Oh. ❞ Finn’s breathless as the holovid scrolls on, the forbidden love between a Hynestian prince & his Pamarthen bodyguard keeping him on tenterhooks. He clings to Poe’s arm during the daring starfighter fight && almost squeals when the Prince & bodyguard kiss before taking the plunge into a surefire suicide run. They pull through, their craft damaged but no one seriously hurt & Finn blows out a breath he didn’t even know he was holding. But the drama isn’t over yet. The Prince still has to marry a Pijali princess to solidify the alliance & Finn is teary-eyed as the dutiful prince bows to tradition & submits to the political marriage, his faithful bodyguard silent at his side.

But then the Pijali princess calls a stop to the wedding & Finn can’t breath, clutching Poe’s hand in his in a death grip. She, draped in the beautiful silks of her planet, raises a bejeweled hand & declares she can’t marry the prince because she loves the woman at her side, her own bodyguard! The Court is stunned! Finn bites down on his bottom lip to keep from whooping as the Prince takes his own bodyguard in hand & also declares his own love.

The holo ends with the four of them boarding a ship & blasting off && Finn sinks back into the couch, feeling like a wrung-out sponge. He turns to his companion & belatedly realizes he’s still clutching onto his hand. He flushes but doesn’t let go.  ❝ Tell me there’s more to the story. ❞ What about the alliance? The throne? Heirs? The story just can’t end there! He must know.

The klaxxon blares above him && Finn goes from disorientated to fully alert in 2.5 seconds flat. Throwing blankets off him, he grabs his blaster & runs out of his quarters, uncaring about his lack of shirt or shoes as he sprints out to the corridor. Others in the Resistance stumble out as well, some more alert than others, && together they all rush to the hangar, weapons at their sides.

It’s their designated spot to gather---the largest room on base && a place where their spacefighters are kept. As adrenaline pumps through his veins, Finn feels a warmth in his chest to see just how many of his fighters are running alongside him, faces grim with determination.

When they approach the hanger, Poe is there, a stopwatch in one hand and a digi-pad in the other. Finn slows down. The rest follow his example, spilling into the hangar bay around him. Poe watches with a shrewd eye, clicks the watch && looks down with a thoughtful frown before marking something down on the pad. The klaxxon stops abruptly.

❝ Slowest response time is seven point five minutes. Not bad, but we could do better. ❞ A grumble raises up from the crowd as they all realise it’s a drill, but it’s hushed as soon as it starts. Poe flashes his signature roguish grin as he dismisses them all back to their quarters. He approaches Finn && his grin grows larger. He reaches out his hand as if to playfully slap his pec before blinking rapidly & grabbing his hand. Oh. Finn looks down at their joined hands & then at Poe’s face which has a weird, unreadable expression Finn has never witnessed before. Poe squeezes before letting go. ❝ Sorry for ruining your beauty sleep, ❞ the pilot-turned-general says, a rare bluster in his voice. 

Finn rolls his eyes & reaches for Poe’s hand to grasp. He loves hand holding, && for once, it’s not during an emergency. A real emergency.  ❝ Like I need it. ❞

He thinks he hears, ❝ You really don’t, ❞ but he shrugs it off as he tugs his co-general along to the Rec Room. Now that he’s up, he won’t be able to get back to sleep && Poe owes him a game of holochess.
