On February 10, 1955, Eartha Kitt stopped her performance in Mrs. Patterson at the National Theater after eight minutes, moaning "I can't go through with it." Her default caused the management to refund tickets for 900 patrons. Kitt entered Doctor's Hospital the following afternoon with a kidney infection. She promised, however, that she would continue to do the show, leaving the hospital each night for the performance and going back when it was over. Here, she makes up in her dressing room before returning to the Broadway play the evening of February 11.
