June 23 2011. When the afternoon came, pigeon and chicken already behaved more freely. The pidge even started to copy the chick's manner of walking: raising the leg quite high and for a moment clenching the toes before lowering the leg for the next step. It was funny to see a pigeon walking in such a chooky way.
The chick also teached her other, very useful skill: an ability to peck the seeds fast. Before that, the pidge's eating skills was clumsier.
There were some crowing coos and angry beak swings, but only a couple of times. I've decided to bring the chick back to my aunt next day, but maybe they would befriend each other more, if the chick would stay a bit longer.
June 23 2011. The chick slept near the food and water that I've put on the floor of this "temporarily henhouse" room. The pidge behaved calmly, though the chick was still a bit afraid, remembering yesterday's pecking.
June 22 2011. When the pidge flied to the window leaf, I brought the chick there. At first, the pidge thought that it violates her pecking distance (chickens just don't have it and don't understand). But then calmed, and sat near the chick till something came up into her head, and she chased away the chick with pecks, as you can see in the video.
One of this images became my userpic here. Because there's two of my favourite bird species together: pigeon and chicken.
June 22 2011. Noticing that the pidge feels lonely, I've brought a guest from my aunt: a young chicken. At first the pidge reacted agressively: said her first angry crowing coo. Which sounded like the long peeps because she wasn't able to coo yet. It was so hilarious and cute! Then she angrily ruffled her back, and pecked the chick. It didn't flew away to the floor, instead just pretended that it's isn't here, closing the eyes, just like little children or kittens do. Then the pidge started to get used to chick's presence, even loafed nearby. Gradually, a chick started to fear her less.
My dove thinks he’s a chicken - found a Facebook diary about a pigeon who lives with mama hen and her brood, considering himself either as her cock, or a chick. Depending of his current mood, it seems. Lately he's mostly like a chick, sitting under the hen's belly. And the hen sees him as a chick too!
July 20 2011. Zaporizhia city zoo. Beware, the striped one! Big biters are close!
