Reposted from @rebica.design @nonhuman_nonsense On May 21st, as part of the Interspecies Futures (IF) curatorial program organized by @softcoreny and @centerforbookarts, we will be part of a panel discussion about "Interspecies Publications Post COVID-19". We are really excited to be in conversation with fellow exhibitors @thomaspausz, @noam_yr, @kristofferorum. This interdisciplinary panel discussion will provide an overview of book projects that were commissioned exclusively for the Interspecies Futures project: - Becoming a Bat, Embodying COVID-19 (2021) by designer/artist Noam Youngrak Son (KR/BE) - Non Flowers (2021) by critical designer Thomas Pausz (FR/IS) - Signal_Crayfish (2021) by artist Kristoffer Ørum (DK) - Pink Chicken Project (2021) by duo Nonhuman Nonsense (SE/DE) Each artist will discuss their design and production processes, the implications of making these books during a global pandemic, and how they understand the role of publications as portals of awareness and fascination towards other species. I am very happy that my book-object Signal_Crayfish is included in the show Interspecies Futures [IF] curated by Oscar Salguero aka @softcoreny Join us for an online opening reception of IF and two other new exhibitions at Center for Book Arts at Apr 15, 2021, 6:30-8:00pm EST. The evening will include exclusive walk-throughs of each exhibition, alongside remarks by the curator and artists. Interspecies Futures [IF] is the first survey of bookworks by leading international practitioners from the contemporary fields of bio-art and speculative design who have turned to the codex as a tool for the proposal of alternative human-nonhuman scenarios. Informed by methods from conceptual art, posthumanism, biotechnology (CRISPR), and emerging interfaces (AI, VR, 3D printing), these artists produce documents that defy the borders between fiction and reality. In their hands field guides, lost diaries, investigative dossiers, lab journals, corporate catalogues become portals into multiple interspecies possibilities. And the signal Crayfish book object is done, documentation and shipping next. The result is en eclectic mix of many materials and formats from fake reports and academic papers to a working WiFi transmitter and hydrographic prints of fictional sports apparel. It's almost not a book, but I think I just exactly manages to be book enough to be called a book object. Now I will begin the work to turn this object into a more traditional book, so that it can be reproduced beyond the few handmade editions will al able to produce. And while it will become a bit more traditional and less diverse in a book format, it will be able to circulate much easier in the established infrastructure of bookshops, libraries and so on, rather than remain an exclusive edition of 7. Slightly delayed because of a bad toothache, but currently gluing and assembling 3d printed part and paper pages for my big book object on the invasive Signal Crayfish that are simultaneously real and imaginary. Tomorrow is the last Day before it's going to be documented and sent of to @centerforbookarts for a show I April.
