Capturing a Picturesque Setting of Mount Eddy from the Black Butte Trail by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While hiking along the Black Butte Trail, I took in this view looking southwest down a mountainside to a valley below with Interstate 5 going through. Beyond, more distant hills and mountains of the Trinity Mountains with Mount Eddy were visible. This area is in the Shasta–Trinity National Forest.

For eons the I5 Union Street exit has been used as a rite of passage. To those who are worthy, it is a gentle curve with a stoplight at the end and the good driver is granted their first spear and allowed to join the elders on the next mastodon hunt. HOWEVER, if the Union St exit deems a driver to be unworthy, it will spit their car into the nearest concrete beam. The driver is then stripped of their honor & exiled from Seattle.

Dunnigan Rest Stop, Interstate 5, California. I always associate this sign with Californian freeway rest stops. The signs (and the rattlesnakes) are everywhere, and, having encountered a few rattlers in my time (e.g. Buttermilk Road), it’s a warning I take seriously...
