Took me around 3 hours. Purely from imagination. In the end I simply photobashed Prof Brand's blackboard writings (You can find them on a caltech website) so that it won't be empty in the background. There is also unsharp mask and posterisation added.

Yet another study. I didn't aim for exact proportions and copying the original shot. It was hands down a challenge to paint Coop at this angle, but nevertheless I think he turned out good in semi-realism.

The highest layer of Mann’s planet…

I’ve rambled before about Gargantua not being visible in the skies of the planets in Interstellar (yeah I’m back on my bullshit with that <- said as if I was ever off my bullshit), so I made another edit sorta based on what I was visualizing in this scene I wrote a few weeks ago. My personal headcanon is that Mann’s planet was once a gas/ice giant, but it cooled so rapidly that all its clouds froze solid over a few millennia. There’s layers upon layers of these frozen water/nitrogen clouds all the way down to a semi-solid core, which still retains some warmth, but there’s absolutely no possibility of life - at least not anymore. It’s possible to climb to certain layers in the clouds where you can actually see the sky, and Gargantua, which is kinda what I was going for here, plus I think Mann’s life pod wasn’t super far away from an area like this where the sky could at least partially be seen.
