“My favorite gigs are those where energies are exchanged between the audience and me. If I have a band, then of course, between all of us. It’s like a circulation of energies. Usually this happens when both the audience and the musicians are really ready to surrender and let go. Then something magical, something transcendent happens. I think these moments are needed, that’s very important. That is why there is spirituality at all, and also religions. Music is the perfect way to find and feel those moments. But you have to want it. Just as you can only meditate, if you really want it. At a concert it’s similar. When you feel that you are being touched and can really get into the emotion and aren’t afraid -- that’s something I can feel at a gig. Many say to me, ‘hey, your music is so dark and sad,’ but I don’t feel that way in those moments. For me, this is not a dark or stressful feeling, it’s more of a warm feeling. Not comfortable, but warm. People are connected through music. I feel more like an ambassador and don’t take it too personally. (...) For me, the audience has a big impact on how I perform.”
