Ariel was one of many Dominican children who received surgery from American doctors with the #MACLAmedmission. Most of the doctors and staff didn't speak Spanish, and the patients didn't speak English, so some volunteers, including me, were invited along to translate. One job that fell to us was hanging out with the kids and their parents before surgery and translating any questions parents might have, as well as relaying important info from doctors/nurses. An unofficial part of that job was to entertain the kids.
