If a time vortex plopped you down in 1939 and you wanted to help beat the Axis faster/with less loss of life than OTL, what would you do? Or was wearing down the Germans/Japanese always going to take half a decade?
Pointing out the invasion force in the Ardennes is the best thing I can do to fight the Germans if I'm being dropped in at 1939; ideally I'd want to do it earlier and strengthen the French domestic political scene by defanging the PCF and the Liga so that the French are in a strong enough position to underwrite their eastern commitments to Czechoslovakia and stop Hitler at Munich long enough for German domestic support to dry up - possibly that means the Oster conspiracy, possibly it means Hitler falls later.
The Japanese, well, by that point the war is already underway, and the only ones who would be large enough to challenge the Japanese in the Pacific are the United States, and they have a strong isolationist commitment to undertake, one that I couldn't beat out by 1939.

Karl Kraus, one of my favorite writers, and also, I’d like to think, a kindred spirit, has renewed relevance for this American moment.
Today’s right boils with violent anger. Conservative paranoia, scapegoating, bigotry, its mind numbing rhetorical simplifications, the incessant lies of its political figures and media barkers, its feckless and routine embrace of misinformation - it speaks in voices redolent of what I see in readings of the Weimar era.
I haven’t read this Kraus work yet and I can hardly wait to get it. I’m thinking it would pair richly with Victor Klemperer’s Language of the Third Reich: LTI: Lingua Tertii Imperii. I’ve read the first volume of his I Will Bear Witness: A Diary of the Nazi Years, 1933-1941, which I’d recommend.

Austrian satirist and polemicist Karl Kraus’s Third Walpurgis Night was written in immediate response to the Nazi seizure of power in 1933 but was withheld from publication for fear of reprisals against Jews trapped in Germany.
