Thomas new better but he didn’t argue. Of course it was a big deal. For pete’s sake he had no memory of anything and that was disturbing. But he had feelings, feelings he couldn’t shake. You could erase someones mind but you couldn’t erase their heart. Standing, he followed after Lana.
“Who is Flint?” He asked. “Why do I need a job? What is this place called?” Another series of questions left his lips.
“Flint was the first here. He runs the place.” Her eyes glanced over her shoulder to look at him as they exited the building. “He’ll assign you to your job. You need a job, because you have to work. You have to pull your own weight around here. That’s just how it is, okay?” Pausing, she turned to look at him. “We call it The Height’s. It’s basically our home. That’s it.” Lana hated looking at him like this, every inch of her wanted to grab him and hold him. Tell him how much she missed him. Loved him. But obviously the feeling wasn’t mutual. He didn’t feel what she felt.
“Look, just keep your head down. Learn your job. Get the way of things and go from that.” Sighing, she turned away from him and started walking again.
