What is your favorite historical era?

That’s the million-dollar question lmao. And that’s why I’m gonna have a hell of a time deciding what my area of focus in higher education will be, but for now I’m just gonna go in as a history major and experiment.

Note: I have a very biographical approach to history, and while I am extremely interested in themes and trends and events and interactions, my biggest History Feels and greatest ability to internalize, spout, and interpret random facts and stories tends to spring from specific people. With the biggest of my historical faves, I get extremely attached to them and feel like I know them to an even greater extent than with my fictional faves, since I recognize that they were actual real people and I might get to party with interact with them in the after-life or something someday.

My earliest love was the American Revolution, and while some of my lifelong favorite historical people are from that period, the period itself has waned on me a little bit.

I have a really strong interest in the Gilded Age, but no historical faves from that time so that kind of waters it down a bit.

Probably my overall fave period that I’ve loved for a while and for many reasons is the Renaissance, but that’s kind of cheating because it’s literally like 200 years and the other two are like a decade.

Also, in another longer time-span, I’m going thru a serious late-Roman-republic-going-into-early-Empire phase right now, as you can tell from me ranting about Julio-Claudian ladies.

I really like transitional periods, obviously.

I’m not the prettiest, but overall, yeah, I’m pretty happy with my appearance.

I have one full sister, a step-sister, a step-brother, and a half-brother. My full sister and I are really close, I love her dearly. My step-sister is… kind of a twat. I still care about her but man does she need a knock upside the head sometimes. My step-brother is sweet enough but he’s spoiled and he’s going to be a damn menace if my step-mom doesn’t start punishing him properly when he does shit wrong. And as for my half-brother, he’s only a baby so there’s not really a relationship lmao

Hee hee, it’s nothing really profound. I’ve always been a Final Fantasy fan, and I always really liked Aeris from FFVII. So Aeris is the first part. Serris is the second because it rhymes, and also because Sarris is the name of the evil alien overlord in Galaxy Quest.

What do you think of Maggie Collins? (Nathan Ford's ex wife)

How do I feel about Maggie!? Okay, deep breath.

Maggie. Is . Awesome!!  Really, though I love her. I love her in every episode she’s in. Here are a few reasons why. (I may be a little fuzzy on some of the episodes but hopefully my details aren't too off...)

1. When Nate’s pretending to be a hot mess in the The First David Job, Maggie doesn’t hesitate to offer him help. I mean, Nate’s just burst into this fancy party for an art exhibit she’s personally involved with, is insulting her boss to her face, and instead of rightfully kicking him to the curb she offers help. Because she's a GOOD PERSON. Go you, Maggie!

2. Omg, the fake date with Eliot. I WILL TRY NOT TO USE ALL CAPS HERE BUT NO PROMISES. SHE SPOTS THE BUTTON CAMERA RIGHT AWAY AND WHAT DOES SHE DO. SHE DOESN’T YELL OR SCREAM. NO, SHE GETS EVEN IN THE MOST HILARIOUS AND NON-HURTFUL WAY AND BONUS MAKES BOTH NATE AND ELIOT EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE IN THE PROCESS. You GO girl.

3. Maggie is SMART. She’s an expert in her field and she knows her shit as much as anyone on that show. And when Nate finally mans up and tells her about the dick move their insurance company made, she dives right the fuck into the con because hell yeah!.

4. BABY GRIFTER. The Maggie and Sophie friendship! Yes Yes Yes. No words for how happy I am about that, and I have no doubt that their friendship is 100% about things that AREN'T NATE. I can’t say how thrilled I am that Maggie doesn’t get shoved into the trap of bitter antagonist ex-wife.

5. Have I mentioned her MOUTH. Not only was the not-date with Eliot stellar, but the whole exchange with Nate about temptation and marriage (and HAHAHA STERLING!! YESSS THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU BRING YOUR HOT FRIEND AROUND PEOPLE NOTICE and I love how nonchalantly Maggie drops that into the conversation, like yes, we were married but we both still had EYES)

6. One last thing. I should mention that I LOVED the Zanzibar Marketplace Job (and how upset Maggie was that she had been freed by not-so legal reasons) but I’m a bit fuzzy on it and sadly have not had time for a rewatch yet. But I will say that the scene between her and Parker and the getaway bag was gold!

TL;DR: Maggie is awesome and I love her.

I hope you weren't put off by my question. I didn't mean to try to trick you or test you or anything. I just think it's fun to think about, and you often have interesting things to say about fictional characters.

Not at all! (I just got the xkcd "What if?" book and the initial "...what?" comment is mainly because it reminded me of a page in the book that consists of weird reader questions that people submitted that weren't answered, including things like "How many houses in the US burn down yearly? How would you best increase that number by a large amount, say, 15%?" and "Could you ever make your teeth cold enough that hot coffee would cause them to shatter on contact?"* and it was all like "hmm, fictional character death match, I've got my very own random question page!") 

I'm more sad that I don't really have an answer for it (although admittedly, the more I think about it, the more I think it's because I tend to think there are more interesting things to do with characters than have them fight to the death. although part of me could turn this into things like "characters I think should have died" or idk writing ficlets about THG AUs for characters or stuff like that**

*for the record I really wish he'd answered the "teeth shattering" question because that would be interesting, even if it's nightmare fuel

**(one of my favorite fanfics ever was a THG/BSG AU where the Cylons made the humans do the Colonial Games. AFAIK it's abandoned/unfinished but it was FANTASTIC.)
