Someone Said I Should Start A Blog

Because I play this game a lot, and I'm kind of a nerd about it. I would argue that I'm kind of a nerd in general, but oh well! I've been playing GoW for a couple of years, I think. When I sat down to think about that it shocked me that I HAVE been playing quite some time. I got my start with it on PS4, and it was a slow start. The guild I was in eventually died and by then I had worked to get my PC/mobile account up to par a bit more. I found an awesome guild with awesome people, #Victoria, but recently things like real life and member changes left the guild with a lot less energy and activity. I was playing less as well. Then we were adopted by Intrim and became Intrim III. Thank you Ken (our leader) for making that decision, and thank you #Intrim for taking us on! Since then activity has bounced back and we are once again flourishing! The Intrim family is, from what I have seen, an awesome multiguild community of super helpful and friendly people. I am trying to contribute to that not only through playing but by being supportive to our members and the GoW community in general. In that spirit, I hope to use this blog as a way of keeping track of my thoughts about and progress in the game. Enough rambling! Henceforth there shall be posts about playing the game, advancing and leveling up, team composition, tips and tricks I find and hear of, and who knows what else? Enjoy!

This is what I displayed at Intrim along with my vinyl illustration. I simply took my animations that I had been working on and edited them together and played around on premier pro. Distorting and see what I could add to my animations without having to actually animate. I also added in an intro just so there was a bit more flow and a conscious beginning to the reel. Overall I am quite happy with how it turned out and people seemed to enjoy them. The main form of criticism I received was that my point of view was very similar throughout all my animations and I needed to play with perception and angles.

This is how my final set up looked for intrim with a close up on my vinyl. Intrim was successful I feel and a majority of the feedback I received from other students and lecturers was positive.  I met with the external examiner during Intrim and he gave me a lot of good feedback on my project. He told me that I needed to be more experimental with my view point and perspective within my animations. He also suggested to that instead of using the animation method to direct the narrative, use the animation method and style to help enhance the narrative. Essentially be more direct with my intention for my animations than taking a passive experimental approach. He also suggested that I should work on the overall direction of my project as it seemed a little vague in it’s core direction. He told me that I needed to focus on refining the concept behind my project and the way I articulate my project.

Initially I was going to do a single colour vinyl for my illustration but then after talking to Annette she suggested I challenge myself and try layering different colours of vinyl on the wall. I might have gone overboard but I decided to do a 4 layer illustration. It was a tricky process as my illustration had a lot of fiddly little bits so prepping the vinyl and mounting the vinyl was quite time consuming but the end result was effective.

For Intrim I decided to show my animations that I had been working on over the course of first semester. I felt that this was my most developed project and also that my animation project was going through a transition in subject matter so I thought presenting what I had at Intrim was a nice conclusion for the project.  My original plan was to have my plinth with a Mac on it playing my animations. Then decorating the plinth with paper cutouts of some of my illustrations, mixing outcomes from my projects. And then having vinyl typography on the wall.  When I was going through my idea gen. for the typography on the wall I came up with the idea of putting a vinyl illustration on the wall, thinking about putting up a genderqueer character to show the new direction for my project. 

I decided to go for the obvious bearded man with breasts. I then decided to make a joke about a play on the phrase “Eyes up here” by directing eyes towards my mac and also inverting the phrase by saying “Eyes down here”.

I wanted to design the concept of a note, however it was important not to ‘break the law’ so I designed this to give the impression of a note, hopefully give it a little more detail, some type, and maybe some figure in the centre. This will be the ‘sticky note’ that the user takes and then the red coins (£) will be stickers. The user can then stick the stickers in the appropriate place as they see fit.

Working on it, I wanted the poster to have some sort of entanglement and relation between the objects, and not something linear. So I sketched an illustration which represents a “bank” and the tubes funnelling and going to the various places we spend money.

So I began thinking of a poster concept, using the same sort of idea but with placing stickers onto a poster.

I like this idea of interactivity as this is essentially what my project is about. So It was something that I definitely wanted to incorporate. The new idea was an interactive infographic that would grow over time. Showing a visual representative of how people spend their money in what areas of life.

The areas I am including are (10 for easy understanding and maths);

Groceries, Health, Bills, Food Out, Coffee, Travel, Clothes, Savings, Nights Out, Gifts.

10x counters split between 10x areas over the term of a week. £100 total I believe is fair. This should represent broadly how people spend their money. 

It was important to consider that this money was “hard earned” and not a gift or something that the user felt no responsibility towards. People spend money differently depending on how it was achieved, through a gift or through work.
