born to the mistress of a russian oligarch’s son in st. petersburg russia, maria never saw much of her mother. it wasn’t until she was 10, and was shipped off to boarding school in france that she found out who her mother was–– a young hotel attendant who had caught her father’s eye on his visit home from the us. he had been visiting his family; his wife and their three year old son illya. when maria was born, she was immediately taken into the petrov family, to be raised by a host of nannies and his father’s mother.
from a young age, maria displayed a great affinity towards different artistic ventures and was quick to pick up languages. she was athletic, and even trained in fencing during her school years. at the boarding school in france she learned to ride, shoot (for hunting purposes) and continued training in fencing. in addition, by the behest of his father, she took up practicing martial arts like krav maga. though she was never a top student, and rather spent her time painting or exploring the french countryside (to find small animals to kill and dissect), she did show good academic progress throughout the years.
it was always her father’s approval she was after. though she had been taken into the family, maria always felt second to her older half-brother illya. he was the apple of his father’s eye, and the heir to his businesses and connections. this was only made worse when maria, now out of boarding school, was finally let in on the big family secret. that her father, and his father also, were some of the most important members of the russian mafia within the united states, and also back in their home country. illya had already known for years, and had been prepared to take on a role within the business. maria felt betrayed by her father, and jealous of her brother, who was once again seemingly more important than herself.
her time did come to be finally included in the family business. she first shadowed her uncle, acting as an errand runner and overall helper. it wasn’t one or two lifeless bodies that she hauled during this time, to help cover up her family’s tracks. eventually she was allowed to work with her brother, who shamelessly used maria to do his dirty work. everything that could seem shady or illegal, it was her job to do. she followed her brother to the us, and for a few years, lived a drugged-up and lavish lifestyle in downtown chicago. everything was going well; she had accustomed to the job, killed her first man, and spent her free time rolling in bed with different men and women she picked up from the clubs. this was, until the fbi finally caught up to the petrov dynasty.
as illya went into hiding, maria was once again tasked with finishing the job he had so incompetently botched. she left her lavish lifestyle behind, and moved to san amore, colorado, in search of one rose sondersby.while in school, maria had taken it upon herself to perfect her english accent. she had at a young age decided she would study in london, either to become an actor or an artist. of course, her father would not allow for such a thing, and as such her dreams of becoming an actress were quickly squashed. it was from these long-buried dreams that she came up with her alter-ego, elaine thévenard. elaine was a french girl, who had always dreamt of becoming an actor. she studied acting in london, and eventually graduated with a bachelors in said subject. however, work was short and she eventually decided to move to san amore in hopes of a new start. she started working at club kiss as a bartender, and moonlighted as a model and actress in the occasional advert or as a background character.

juniper diane hollingsworth was born and raised in san amore, co. her parents were earth loving, composting, vegan friendly hippies that decided that a small town was just exactly what they were looking for when they decided that they were going to raise a child together.
juniper had a great life, her mother and father were always very attentive, always involved in any and everything that she did, always rooted for her ( even if she was in last place for soccer awards ).
as a young adult, they cheered her on when she decided that she was going to move out of state to attend college so she could achieve her dreams to owning her own business. juniper had always been the girl to say she wasn’t going to work for anyone, she wanted to make a name for herself and that couldn’t be done if she was working under someone, could she?
so juniper went to california for a little bit to learn from the very best in business management and such. she came back after 4 years and decided that she was going to open a bakery.
however, when she came back, she was bringing someone along with her. a man that she had fallen head over heels for when she met him in college. he was the absolute dream, he wanted to make a difference in the world, he talked it up often and juni was just enamored by his passion and charisma. her parents always had a weird feeling about him, and often juniper’s mother would ask if she was really happy in her relationship. of course, juni thought that she was, because she hadn’t realized that she’d been gaslighted nearly the entire time they’d been together when they moved back to san amore.
on christmas eve, juniper was proposed to, and the following valentine’s day they were married. it was the happiest day of her life, she felt like finally, she had everything she could have ever imagined she’d have. a career, a booming business, a husband, the only thing missing were children.
juniper and her husband started working on the children thing nearly a week after their wedding, after the honeymoon ended in bora bora, and they came back to reality. one day, juniper took her pregnancy test as she was feeling way too ill for it to just be a weird flu, and it turned out she was pregnant!
three months into the pregnancy though, juniper lost her baby and that changed everything; where she should have had her husband’s support, she got a cold shoulder. he was never around, always out in the bars or at work. eventually juni spoke up and mentioned that she was sad that he would just leave her which resulted in her getting a right slap to the face and falling to the floor.
this abuse went on for months and months, until finally, her husband ended up hurting her so bad that she had to be rushed to the hospital. she had a fractured jaw, and some broken ribs and a few teeth that had gone missing that had to be replaced. after that, her mother and father went to their home, packed up juni’s belongings and wouldn’t allow her to go back.
juni believed that she really loved him, and still loved him even as she sat in a hospital bed with her jaw wired shut. he was the love of her life and she just assumed that he was grieving differently than she was as everyone did grieve differently.
juni’s parents made her decide if she wanted to live or if she wanted to go back to her husband. juni knew that if she went back it’d be bad, especially with her being away from him for so long without contact. so she decided that for now they needed a separation.
juni still bumps into him from time to time and they never have great interactions, so she’s very close to calling it quits for good and to ask for a divorce. but she’s terrified of that outcome.

Korina grew up with the absence of a maternal figure in her life and with a spelling mistake on her birth certificate, note the K. For as long as she could remember it was just her, her sister, Candice, and their father, a watchmaker who often dabbled with toy making as well. She was told she was born in Los Angeles, California, but most of what she remembered was split between their time visiting her father’s brother wherever he decided to end up during his anthropological ventures and San Amore, Colorado, her father’s hometown.
And, Korina was happy. She had a happy childhood, always wanting to tinker with things and create inventions like her father, but most importantly protected from things she didn’t need to know, things like her mother being an up and coming actress in Hollywood named Danielle O’Herra who had kept her private life just that, private. Maybe too private because Korina’s father had only come to know about the death of the mother of his children via an Italian news paper he had translated for him. An on-set accident in Italy during a filming left the actress dead and front page news in the country. And sure, the LA Times gave a nice nod to Miss O’Herra’s once promising career about it in ‘97 but it was never anything more than an unsolved mystery pushed to the side for far more important things.
Kornia was fifteen when she found out who her mother was, and fifteen when she began this odd fascination with her mother’s death and eventually, death in general. Visits to her uncle in Australia or Brazil or whatever he was that given week also provided her with information about other cultures and how they dealt with death. Then there was her ex-boyfriend who was a cameraman for the nightly news who told her stories no one wanted to hear…and so one youtube binge later and a return to San Amore after years of being away trying to find herself, and a few more answers and Korina was back and the new assistant of a mortician, much to the dismay of her father who kept insisting she help him at the watch shop and that she was far too type-A to be an assistant for such a position, like he had asked of Korina’s sister.
