A visit to the library.

I looked through some more examples of artists books as I thought I may find something that inspires me for my own book.

The book above was pages of tracing paper which is something I am going to try out as it would fit well with the reasearch I am doing and what I am heading towards with my book.

I like the use of the tracing paper as you can see through to the other pages making it almost like one image and then broken down as you go through the book.

I will definitely be trying this out for my primary research using the book binding workshop I attended to help me create a book with tracing paper.

I was looking at sustainability rather than brand identity and came across this project.

I just like the concept and how color coded everything is.

//Pick, Pack, Sell//

I have started compiling some research on sugar brands, uses, target market, competitors and interviewing people on their opinions. After taking notes, I am putting my research into InDesign to practice using the program.

I interviewed two people within my target market age range in their 40s who told me about their issues with the way sugar is currently packaged. They told me a range of issues such as:

-Sugar clumps if the bag gets wet.

- Packaging is flimsy/ can rip easily.

-Spillage when pouring.

- Storage is difficult if packet isn’t a rigid shape.

//Manifesto poster//

At the end of this last term, I worked on a manifesto poster group project where each person produced an inspirational typographical poster using the transducer typeface. I helped the paste the group’s posters on the wall to create a big wall of posters printed on different coloured papers.

//Intersections Final//

My final outcome for the intersections project completed here with the added text reading ‘shops’ and ‘beach’. I hand wrote these words using a textured brush in Procreate and used photoshop to arrange the composition of the entire piece.

Overall, I am happy with the image/ illustration element of my design as it portrays a simplistic view of Bournemouth and the areas pedestrians head towards when using the crossing. If I were to do this part of the project again, I would consider simplifying the illustration style even further to maybe make the designs of the buildings more symbolic rather than iconic.

When looking at the hand drawn typography/ calligraphy I would consider next time using a font so that all the letters are symmetrical, although I do like the asymmetrical aspect of hand drawn type.

My current progress on my intersections project. I have mostly completed the design I am now just looking to add type to the top and bottom of the design that reads ‘shops’ and beach’

// A different point of view//

These are my final pieces for this project improved from feedback from presentations. I think my favourite final piece is the poster for the National Trust, the two book pages are from another experiment I did where I represented quotes from my third story with text, image and composition. To improve my poster I kept the elements within it the same but I changed the composition by making the magnifying glass much larger and overlapping the borders of the page. I think this gives it a much better composition as the magnifying glass isn’t just floating in space anymore and mimics the view of looking through it if you were holding it.
