In Trouble Again Overview: Redmond O'Hanlon travels to the depths of the rainforest between the Orinoco and the Amazon. Enlisting his Londoner friend, a Colombian scientist, Venezuela's best river navigator and a few rugged locals, they make the intrepid journey in search of a river that has never been accurately located and the Yanomami tribe, known for their violence and ferocity as warriors. O'Hanlon vividly records the journey: from the struggles they face getting lost and running out of food to the myriad creatures-tapirs, anacondas, wild boars and countless exotic birds-to the fascinating Yanomami tribe and his experiences with yoppo, an Amazonian drug. O'Hanlon, affectionately called Reymono, goes boldly on, inspiring his crew at each obstacle with his unflagging curiousity, his willingness to push limits and his desire to explore the unknown to reach the heart of darkness in the Amazon. Worth reading?: Simply stated, yes. I struggled with the first chapters because O'Hanlon opened by trying to dramatize the danger of the journey and then goes through the tedium of preparation, sometimes with excruciating honesty that put me off. But once the dogged Reymono enters his comfort zone-immersed in nature-he hits his stride and the writing streams along with incredible details and stunning imagery that draws you in so that you feel your own damp boots and the searing pain of fire ant bites. O'Hanlon earned my trust as a reader, and he approaches each encounter with his crew, with nature, with the Yanomami with compassion and an earnest effort to understand and observe as a humble snd grateful anthropologist. Definitely worth a read for anyone who appreciates adventure! #travelwriting #traveltuesdays #travellife #read #bookreview #introubleagain #redmondohanlon #science #nature #aventura #amazon #amazonas #venezuela (at Amazon rainforest)
