Summary: Mama Higurashi suggests Kagome writes letters to deal with her grief in InuKag’s three year separation.
A huge shout out to @geda-art for this amazingly, talented, beautiful banner she made me for this five part story. I cannot expresses just how much I love it and that she was able to capture what I wrote perfectly.💕
Chapter Two
Dear Inuyasha,
How could you?! How could you just leave me like this?! I know you think that my world is safer, but it’s just not! Just because there aren’t demons running around and people fighting for jewel shards, doesn’t mean my world isn’t any less dangerous than yours, you idiot! I wish you had just gone with Kikyo and defeated Naraku by yourself, so I wouldn't have to deal with all these emotions by myself. I’m sorry, I didn’t truly mean all of that.
Screaming happy birthday to @banksdelivers! I’m so happy that we became friends and I hope you have the most wonderful day. 💕
Lucky Dog
Summary: The Inugang come across an abandoned castle and Inuyasha has finally had enough of cursed objects. A flash engulfs them and why is Inuyasha suddenly a dog?
Part One:
Kagome scrunched up her nose, the fine layer of dust irritating her senses as she blinked back unshed tears. If this is bothering me this much, I can’t imagine how much worse it would be for Inuyasha. Better hurry and get finished before he returns. Squatting to sweep the dirt out from under the bottom shelf, she spotted a stack of books under some random statue, a blue one with faded silver lettering along the spine catching her attention. Grandpa usually keeps all his books inside….
So, many of you loved the soulmate oneshot I did yesterday and I was inspired to write a second part, with Kagome's POV. I also added them both to AO3, so be sure to check it out if you'd like to read both. 💕
Part Two
Kagome sighed in bliss as her back popped. As much as I love cooking, sitting hunched over is ruining my body. Giving the pot a stir once more, she quickly covered the water so the next batch of noodles could boil. Once everything was squared away, she leaned back on her hunches and stared out at the rising sun.
A feeling of frustration and anger washed over her causing Kagome to inhale deeply, attempting to push the offending emotion aside. I’m gonna need whoever that is, to get their emotions under control.
“Good morning dear, are they doing it again?” Her mother’s cheery voice came from behind.
“Yes, but it seems to be happening more often. I just wish I knew who this was.”
“I understand, but take a deep breath and push through it, like always.”
Nodding, Kagome did as her mother instructed and closed her eyes, inhaling once more. She saw a flash of silver, shining bright as the full moon, but it was gone before she could see who it was. The anger subsided, leaving the familiar pit of loneliness in her gut and she exhaled, opening her eyes to see her mother’s concerned face.
Giving her a smile, she glanced back at the food cooking and nodded, hoping her mother wouldn’t push it any further. The visions and emotions had begun around three weeks ago and became more frequent and intense, as if someone was calling out to her very soul. But who though? I need to know.
It wasn’t until she had sworn she heard someone laughing and almost tripped over the fire pit searching for them, that she told her mother and grandmother. Grandmother Kaede had told her stories of soulmates and how they came to be, using the soul to bring them together, but she didn’t believe that. How could I have a soulmate when I don’t even have friends or know who or what they are exactly? Besides, people already look at me strangely without ever even getting to know me, even if they enjoy my cooking.
Her mother suggested they take her ramen specialty on the road in hopes of finding whoever it was and they were now in the Wolf Clan for the time being. Wrinkling her nose, Kagome wasn’t exactly too fond of the smell of wolves, but they were nice enough to her.
A pair of twin wolf demons had been the nicest to her, telling her stories of their adventures while she and her mother set up their stall, but unfortunately, today they were at the palace celebrating their Lord’s new children. Today was the final day they were staying here, then heading south towards the ocean, hoping to make their way back home before the winter snow came.
“Kagome, is this pot ready to bring out? I think we will be fairly busy today.”
“Just a couple of more stirs and the noodles should be perfect.” She smiled, hoping to ease her mother and her own fears.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The day started off quiet, but Kagome knew her mother had been right. With the Lord’s festival, people came flocking to the market village and particularly their stall. They had set up a routine, her mother serving the patrons and Kagome remained behind the curtain, preparing more and prepping for the next day. Every so often when someone complimented her food, her mother would call her out to come say hello and people would grow uncomfortable. She grew used to it from an early age, kids making fun of her because she had one brown eye and one blue, but it never failed to hurt when she saw the disgust on their faces.
Through it all though, she tried not to let it break her spirit. She was in her twentieth year and pretty much accepted that she was going to be alone for the rest of her life. Then, her father and brother died in a horrific fishing accident and it was just the two of them for a long time. It was then, Kagome discovered her love of cooking and created this masterpiece her mother had nicknamed ramen noodles.
The little beachside village loved it, often expecting her to make it for all of their festivals and celebrations and yet, nobody wanted to be friends with her. It grew lonely sometimes, but she was determined to make something out of herself and not become a recluse to hide away for the rest of her days. Maybe that’s why I have such a hard time believing I have a soulmate.
The sun had finally begun to set and she could hear her mother talking to a group of men on the other side, when suddenly a flash of amber filled her eyes. That’s new, it’s always been silver before. Frowning, she froze over the pot, wondering if her visions were changing. I can always think about it later. Clearing her mind, she tuned into the conversation her mother was having.
“Hello, would you like a bowl of ramen?” Her bright voice asked.
“What’s ramen?” He asked.
“Here, why don’t you try some and if you like it, you can take a bowl with you.”
Kagome smiled, happy to have more people enjoy it. If there’s anything I could leave in this world, is full bellies and a bit more happiness.
“Actually, would you mind if we took some back to our carriage? My daughter in law is carrying and I think this would be perfect for her.”
“Of course, I’ll dish some up for you and your children. How many bowls would you like?”
“I’ll pay for every pot you have!” Every pot? As much as she wanted to focus on their conversation, something was pulling at her to go outside and show her face. Quickly setting the lid back on the pot, she rose silently to her feet and paused at the edge of the curtain, her heart pounding in her chest. I need to see….
“Yes! My daughter Kagome makes this as often as possible, starting from scratch almost every week for market day. Speaking of, Kagome dear! Come out, there is another gentleman who would like to compliment your cooking.”
Smiling softly as her mother’s words washed over her, Kagome stepped out from behind the white curtain, pushing back the confusing and disappointed emotions that threatened to overwhelm her. Now is not the time for whoever you are to be sad.
Taking a deep breath, she was shocked to inhale the woodsy scent from before, but much much stronger now. Looking up, she was even more shocked to see a tall man with silver hair tied up in a high ponytail and golden eyes, though not exactly like the gold that flashed through her mind before. Swallowing the lump that dared to form in her throat, she smiled.
“Hello, Kagome. My name is Toga and this is my son, Inuyasha.”
Nodding, she turned to introduce herself to his son when she felt an overwhelming urge in her heart to be close to him. Staring straight into his amber eyes, she gaped as everything within her clicked into place. Is that? Right in front of her stood a handsome hanyou with jagged purple streaks across his cheeks, towering above her with the cutest triangles atop his head and the same awestruck expression on his face. It was then, her heart whispered the name that sealed her fate.
Where do I begin with a letter that you will never see? I have so many things I could tell you, most you probably wouldn’t understand and as I sit here under the Goshinboku, the place where we first met, I have nothing. Mama suggested I write letters to you, similar to how she did when my father died, says this is supposed to help me with my grief, whatever that means, but I guess I should begin somewhere.
