A problem that robotics needs to overcome is that of what I call the “Spatial Delima.” In which I define as being the freedom of full spatial movement in terms of an actively changing and dynamic environment.
As objects move in reference to a robotic system, they may not be static, or the rules for the defining of what the robot should preform are changing instead of just objects moving around continuously.
Example:
Say you have a robot moving around the moon. The robot moves in terms of the rules of the environment it is based around. If the environmental objects are static, then the robots understanding of the environment will be simple and it can plan accordingly.
The more dynamic the nature of objects in an environment are the more complex the rules needed to contend with that said environment.
Example2:
You have a robot in a bar, and you want serve drinks. If it follows its conventional movements or paths of movement then I will rely on a static environment.
The ways I see around this Delima is either making the environment static or making the robot static in its understanding. We live in a dynamic universe so it may be best to have a robot dynamic in its planning.
