More 90s comic book action as survivors of the Invid war seek to rebuild in the remains of a war torn Earth.
Invid War: Aftermath (IVA) was the second of the bound volumes of Robotech comics I found at the old bookstore last year. Just like Robotech:Invid War, a big part of the joy in reading this collection was the nostalgia of 1990’s advertising, letters to the editor and updates from the publisher. There’s also the fun of finding an entire bound collection of comics from that era so carefully preserved.
Set a decade after the events of ‘Invid War’, the mecha that are synonymous with Robotech still crop up in IVA. Where IVA differs is that the focus is less on the ‘tech and more on the characters and the ways they respond to the challenge of rebuilding civilization in a post-apocalyptic Earth.
Much like the previous Invid War collection, this is a book that’s likely to have niche appeal. Lovers of mecha, 90’s comics or post-apocalyptic adventures would probably enjoy this collection. But as I said last time around:
“This collection of comics is both niche and unique. It’s something of a collector item, although something collected for the love of what it is rather than the monetary value. For that reason it’s not a book I can recommend you go out and buy since you’ll more likely need to buy the individual comics. Rather, my recommendation is to keep on visiting and supporting those second hand books stores that still exist. Help keep them alive and thriving because you never quite know what treasures they might hold.”
