"Kill your television"
Is watching too much television harmful?
Well, I say: no. Yes, I know all the arguments of how it's time consuming, how it could be distracting, and so on. However, I find it as one of the few things to give me a "pick me up."
Not only is it entertaining, but it's also educating, and a great way to stimulate you're thoughts. I have learned so many things from various shows and movies.
"Scrubs" for one taught me that dried good smelling flowers that you leave in a class bowl on the side table are called potpourri. I can go on about things I've learned from tv shows and movies, but that's for another story.
Sure, I love and adore watching tv shows and movies but at one point, I thought it was the devil.
"I will not watch any television this year until I'm done all my work!" I said. I didn't want it to distract me. Now, of course, that didn't last long. If anything, I've been finding myself working alongside the tv.
Some work is too boring to focus on for too long that I find the constant numerous episodes of "How I Met Your Mother" playing in the background helps me continue rather than diverge from my tasks.
It does make completing the work take longer than usual. But when I feel like doing absolutely nothing other than sitting on the couch and messing with the remote and xbox or PS4 controller, it helps to watch while working.
It allows me to do my work, even when I don't want to. After a four day weekend the last thing I want to do is complete any assignments. So I compromise with my brain.
Watch tv-something I want to do, and write my paper-something I'm not exactly looking forward to.
"Kill your television" isn't exactly a moto to live by, I'm a complete "I *heart* TV" advocate. Television doesn't just mean BBC shows, action movies, and reality tv. There are also documentaries, news, and history and educational shows that you might benefit from.
I for one have made it an aid in working. It's just up to you in how you channel and use this resource.
