I am absolutely fuming right now.
I know a lot of people hate the new IOS 26.2 update because of how ugly the Liquid Glass looks, and how it’s inaccessible, and I agree, it’s awful and hideous, but allow to get up on my soapbox and complain about how badly they have messed one of the accessibility features.
I frequently use the Screen Reader tool on my phone; now I’m not blind, and technically I don’t need this feature. f anyone who actually needs this feature in order to use their phone would like to chip in, I would be fascinated to hear if these changes somehow improve your experience, because I seriously doubt it. My experience has been god awful.
For one, the screen controller that controls this feature now automatically snaps to the sides of the screen. I used to have mine placed on the top middle of the phone, so it's out of the way, now it is physically impossible to put it there, and it’s constantly in the way.
The new UI is dreadful, not just in looks, it’s small and fiddly yet somehow covers up more of the screen. But the function is worse, it used to be possible to open the controller, close it, play, pause, change speed, or reset, all with one tap. Now these options are nested within menus, it’s so inconvenient. Never mind the fact that it’s now impossible to reset the reader. Want it to stop reading this webpage and start on another, well to bad, you can’t! At least not without some very contrived work arounds.
Cherry on top of all of this, first time I tried using the new screen reader, it managed to freeze my whole screen and I had to restart my phone.
Fuck you apple
It took effort to change this, and from what I can see you changed it in the worse ways possible. Why do you insist on totally fucking up accessibility, who did you think you were helping with this?
