Audio Toys and Music Tech
When any sort of gear or software is introduced at a trade show for musicians, gear companies try to find ways to set their equipment apart from the rest. This is much easier said than done since critics are good at being critics. No matter how well built your product is, it may be called too expensive or too bulky. If a product is cheap and fun in a small package, it will likely be called a toy or a gimmick. The worst part about these trade shows is that the first impression is the impression that will be felt by the secondary audience who wouldn’t even dare to purchase it unless it got rave review within ten minutes. I’m guilty of giving items the same descriptions without even using them; I judge them based on their looks and what purpose I think they were built to serve. The Traktor app is one of the better iPhone apps that has been released for iOS users, and since it is from NI (rather than some lone developer) I’m more inclined to think that precious time has been put into developing it. But even if it is better than the rest I still want to lump it into the category of toys and gadgets that won’t ever have a real use. http://www.xlr8r.com/gear/2013/04/week-music-tech-silent-servant-n
