This came to me in a dream.
As someone who has criticized Lucario's design in the past, I unironically think Lucario Z is an improvement over the base design.
I don't have a Switch 2 so I likely won't get the games on launch. If I were to pick between the versions, I'd choose Wind solely on the gear the player uses. Funny hat.
Imagine if those Pikachus were the legendaries in disguise. It would be sooooo funny.
Okay so after like... 2-3 years, I finally finished most of Pokemon Sword's main story. I just have the champion left to beat. Some quick thoughts.
As I said before, I find the writing to be very underwhelming. Apparently this is a somewhat common consensus between hardcore or more dedicated fans. The characters are actually fine, it's just that the story around them doesn't really bring them to their full potential. I get they wanted to be more realistic by locking you out of the loop, but sometimes too much realism can hurt a story.
I'm not a level designer but... Something about the route design seems... Underwhelming? I wouldn't be surprised if a good chunk of the budget went into the wild area.
The human characters are very expressive and exude lots of personality. While I do appreciate later games for touching up on the Pokemon models and animations, the way they go about the human characters here just hits Different, you know?
The designs of the human characters are just good in general. It's nice seeing alternate takes on common Pokemon classes such as the hiker and fisherman. Their looks alone really do say a lot.
It is nice seeing how the opinions of the NPCs change as you move up in the Gym Challenge. It's heartwarming and makes the world feel more lived in.
I don't believe the devs are lazy, but you can tell they had to make compromises to accommodate for being on a super underpowered console. Not really helped by having big Pokemon as a gimmick, I'm sure. I guess they wanted to show what a Pokemon game on the Switch can be? Then again, the debut games were never really the strongest of their generation. Diamond and Pearl went through development issues and had to have Platinum to patch things up.
So those are my thoughts so far. It's pretty mixed, but it wasn't completely terrible. I can't wait to finally meet Klara in the DLC.... >w<
You know I'm just thankful that Geeta didn't turn out to be evil and just wasn't the best with her job. Especially given who the villain was back in SWSH.... Or Legends Arceus. Yikes.
I get that the whole formula with Legends Z-A's plot is that every faction we meet turns out to not be evil but... Rust Syndicate sends so many mixed messages. I know it's fiction and all but it could give kids the wrong idea about loan sharks. At least with Jancinthe they acknowledge how fucked up her behavior is. Here we become BFFsies with Corbeau just because he did a few good deeds. I get the significance of meeting Corbeau.... I just think it could have been done differently is what I'm saying.
I sometimes wish some of these mega designs were the actual base designs. With a few tweaks you could make it work.
