An Anomalous Encounter

✡— The Uchiha’s tall & aloof figure ambled down the seemingly narrow hall as it was now welling with students, their pestilential expressions boring into the back of the Uchiha’s mind as he managed to hustle his way to his next class, several murmurs echoing from the behind of him as many of the females he’d passed swooned at the sight of him. How vexing. 

Bumping past several builds as they chatted amongst themselves, the Uchiha finally made his way to his destination. Upon entering, his eyes lingered into the half-packed classroom, jade hues falling upon an unaccustomed female standing just before him as he gazed back into her orbs. 

His figure sauntered past her and to his seat, making nothing of the sudden encounter, and setting his bag to the side of his seat. Hopefully the day will pass soon.

    Ryuu walked up the rusty set of stairs that led to Mikado’s apartment. He had been asked by Mikado—on short notice—to show a friend around Ikebukuro. Of course, Ryuu could have ignored the request if it had not been for the fact that his Boss told him to make an effort in trying to get along with the new leader.

    First his kittens, now this? I’m not a babysitter.

    Ryuu reached the door and knocked three times, “Mikado asked me to show you around Ikebukuro.” He wasn’t given any information on who he was supposed to escort around Ikebukuro. The only piece of information that he could infer from the request was that this person was new to the area. In his opinion, there wasn’t much to see around Ikebukuro unless you were willing to spend money.

           “Jeany-chan! What have you been up to?” She grabbed the girl by the shoulder when she passed her in the street. She’d been so wrapped up in work and school and gang activities that she hadn’t encountered her friend in a long time. “I feel like it’s been one thousand years since we last talked. Face to face, I mean. There’s only so much texting a relationship can handle!”

        “Jeanette!” Una paid little attention to her surroundings or the volume of her voice. There were times when excessive loudness could be tolerated, and hailing friends was one of them. With small steps, she darted carefully toward the taller girl, just barely managing to navigate pedestrian traffic.“My phone finally got back from the repair shop! I’m truly sorry I never told you of the situation beforehand. Believe me, I wanted to text you on a friend’s phone, but I realized too late that I do not actually know your number by heart...”

New schools were always scary, and new people were even scarier! The girl their teacher was introducing her to was no exception. Maybe it was the way she was staring back at her with an inexplicable gleam in her eyes, or how much she stood out from her shorter peers. ... Did she know about her jet lag? Did she think her Japanese was bad? ... Because it wasn’t the best! But that’s no reason to stare so steadily, is it? Hopefully she understood Katarine was from a different country--

Kat was left to fend for herself soon enough--much to her dismay--armed with her poor vocabulary and a “tourist”-y dictionary her mother sent with her. She grips the book tight and falters a little bit--refraining from flipping it open to find her words. She wants to make a good impression, dang it!

She gapes for a couple moments, before she starts nervously.

     “It is, um! How you say--” ... nice to meet you?      “Nice to see you.” ... That doesn’t sound right. Oh dear.

    How long had he been staring? -- He lost track.

     Jeanette was rambling again, and it was hard to keep up with her broken Japanese -- but as she spouted and gushed her incoherency, Aoba noticed the way her mouth moved. Bright eyes blink and fixate -- deviate away from her eyes to soft lips more times than he would care to admit -- and he’s embarrassed about it.

     Why now --? Of all times!

     His heart is beating in his ears and he’s turning pink -- cursing his youth under his breath and praying she doesn’t notice. ... But she kept touching him. She kept grabbing his hands and giggling and crowding into his space while she went on her tangent -- so when her hands reach for his the fifth time that night, he grasps them tight and draws her in. He pulls her to him easily, their lips meet a little too quickly and he winces when a tooth clips his lip -- but he doesn’t complain. She’s quiet now, and can’t say anything as long as they stay there.

     He’ll tell himself later that he did it to shut her up -- not because he wanted to or anything!

      "Ah, Jean-tan!" Spotting the other girl just down the street, Una raised her arm to beckon her over. "It's been a while, you know? I think I would have recognized you if we crossed each other in passing..." Contrary to their first meeting, Una's long brown hair was hidden under a blue wig. In a way, it clashed a bit with the blue of her Raira uniform. "I've been meaning to ask--do you cosplay? Ah, but I suppose a better question would be if you liked manga at all." Her head tilted in consideration. After all, Jeanette couldn't read very well, presumably. "Anime? It's just that you're so tall. You could probably pull off the 'cool type' with ease."
