Oh goodness! Despite the horrible lateness of this reply, I love talking about my babies :DI have way too many to put down at any kind of reasonable length, so I’m gonna just talk about four of them. If you have any questions, I’m happy to answer them, and I’m also happy to talk about the others!
Oh, and before I begin: Abuse tw for Olly and Branwen. There is some discussion of WWII and related events for both Olly and Dahlia, but it’s nothing in-depth. There is also a murder warning for Branwen. With that taken care of, here we goooo...
Oldrich: Essentially, my oldest OC who isn’t a terribleself-insert. He’s been around for years now, and I’ve literally played himsince infancy—at this point, I have basically his entire life planned out. I’veposted a bit about him before, but when you have a character for this long, youdon’t really get tired of talking about them.Olly is a Jewish-Austrian composer and musician, who was born in 1861. Hisfather was determined to make Olly continue with the family legacy of music, tothe point where he used cruel and abusive tactics to teach his young son. Forthe rest of his life, Olly would have a complicated relationship with his father;at times he hated his father for making his childhood a living hell, but atother times he felt he owed his father for teaching him everything he knew. Asan adult, he fell in love with his valet, Conseil, which destroyed his marriagebut was the start of a life-long, loving partnership. By the 1880s, he was world-famousfor his operas and symphonies, especially one he wrote for Conseil, and wasappointed as the court conductor for the Emperor of Austria. The First World War hit him and his family hard. Olly felt lost as the fall ofthe Austro-Hungarian Empire seemed to bring the end of his old way of life. Hesent his children out of the country when Antisemitism began to rise in the1930s and did what he could to help others escape as well. Oldrich himselfcould never leave his beloved Vienna, however. He died in his home in 1942,never knowing what would become of his family or his country.
Dahlia: The second daughter and youngest child of Oldrich,she lead a life of duality. At the insistence of Conseil, the family would maketrips to France every summer until WWI, and Dahlia was enamored with thecountry. She studied painting and fashion, although she was also veryinterested in veterinary medicine—something her family discouraged. Her oldersister had married an Englishman and led a life that Oldrich greatlydisapproved of, and he was determined not to repeat the past. As soon as shewas of age, Dahlia was wed to Oldrich’s favourite student, a handsome Frenchpianist. Their relationship was rocky from the beginning, as the willful Dahliawas reluctant to act as submissive as her husband desired. Further complicatingthings was her very close friendship with the son of one of Oldrich’s friends,who was another Englishman. Despite Olly’s best efforts, history did repeatitself to some degree, and she began an affair with her English friend.During WWII, Dahlia lived in the old French house she had spent every summer inas a child. She used her status as a wealthy socialite to collect informationfor the French Resistance by getting Nazis drunk at parties. After a while, shewanted to get involved in more direct work, and started assisting theResistance in blowing up railways and communication lines.(Dahlia’s story is still being RP’d, so things are subject to change or will beadded to her story in time!)
Finn: Aaand this is the part where I have to admit that mostof my characters exist in this sort of Hetalia AU. There’s also sort of a division between the characters here: Olly and Dahlia are more historically-based, while the next two are way more mythological- and fantastical-type characters. Finn is the personificationof Ireland, and the second-youngest of the Kirklands. He has led a hard life,and for centuries worked unwillingly in the service of his brother, Arthur. Therelationship between Finn and Arthur is… complex, to say the least, but latelytheir relations have been improving by leaps and bounds. This was boosted bythe fact that Arthur resurrected Finn’s fiancée (kind of a long story), who haddied during the Irish Potato Famine over 150 years prior. After she died, Finnhad gotten lost: his faith all but evaporated and he felt like a failure to hispeople for letting the famine ravage the land. The only thing that sustainedhim was the desire to be free from English rule.Aside from that, he was a shell of his former self—until his fiancée returned.She brought back the old Finn, the one who sang and was silly and whittledanimals out of wood. His children have also helped him come out of hiscatatonic state, especially his daughter, whose strange magical abilities arebecoming a source of both pride and worry.As for how he feels about Arthur, well… he does his best to give advice to hisbrother nowadays, although he is still a little wary and annoyed about Arthur’sinsensitivity towards the struggles of others. He is also still reeling fromthe loss of his oldest brother, Ceri, for reasons to be explained wiiiiiith
Branwen: Oh Branwen… where to begin. She’s based off of a Welshmythological/sort of historical tale about a war between Wales and Ireland, butmy version of her veers quite radically away very soon into the tale. Thousandsof years ago, she was the Princess of Wales, and she was wed to the King ofIreland. He was cruel to her from the very beginning, but when he turned hisanger towards their children, Branwen could not stand by. She killed him on thespot, which sparked a war between the already contentious Ireland and Wales. Theinvasion was swift, and Branwen initially spent her days in hiding, separatedfrom her children. When her young sons were killed by Irish forces, however, noone could stop her from joining the war. She was an adept spellcaster, and sheused her magic to kill every Irish person she could find. Men, women, children—itdidn’t matter. No one was safe from her rage. Eventually the Welsh grew tiredof such terrible destruction and turned on her. She took many of them with her,but in the end, they slew her and threw her into the river Alaw.This is where the story gets interesting.For reasons that take too long to explain here (but will gladly be elaboratedupon if asked!), Branwen was brought back to life during the modern age.Although thousands of years had passed, it seemed to her like only a night’ssleep worth of time. So much of the world had changed around her, but Branwenstill held on to her hatred and desire for revenge. When she met Arthur, Finn’sbrother, an opportunity presented itself to her: she would seduce Arthur anduse him to find out Finn’s weaknesses. She was pregnant and engaged to bemarried before her murderous intentions were discovered, and Arthur endedthings immediately. Enraged, Branwen decided that only the destruction of the entireBritish Isles would do. By possessing the body of a Welsh demigod, she hadenough strength to destroy a huge portion of Wales and its personification,Ceri. Arthur managed to kill her, but it cost the life of the demigod as well,and would do nothing to bring back what was lost. He was left with theirnewborn daughter to care for, a living reminder of the tragedy but also a signof hope for the future.And lately, there have been some signs that Branwen is not gone forever…
