The iPhone has evolved into a much faster performing device. Critics, who tested the recently launched iPhone 5, raved about its fast data speeds. The device is also backed by a powerful A6 processor which contributes to enhanced performance. Prior to the launch, this new device was sometimes being dubbed as the ‘LTE iPhone’. There are reports which state that some people have upgraded to the iPhone 5 only because of this reason. The new 8 MP camera is another major improvement made to the new iPhone.
So what all can you do with a faster processor, LTE and the camera? Let’s find out.
Data speeds over LTE, Wi-Fi
Apple has also promoted the faster Wi-Fi performance on the iPhone 5. The critics have found have found it agreeable. Industrial reports state that whether you use the Wi-Fi at home, workplace or at different malls, hotels and airports, the iPhone 5’s Wi-Fi performance is commendable with the 802.11g standard.
Processor performance
It was anticipated that if Apple is rolling out a new version of the iPhone, it would be faster than before. This time around, Apple has equipped the iPhone 5 with an A6 processor and faster GPU. However, certain industrial reviews have revealed that basic users would not be able to differentiate much between the iPhone 4S and 5 in terms of speed. For resource hungry applications like games that are rich in graphics, you will notice some striking improvements in frame rates while running them.
As for multitasking and applications, the performance is quite fast. On the new Maps app, the 3D flyover view was excellent, as revealed by the tests. It brought out the difference between the iPhone 5 and its predecessor. Overall, the increase in speed is clear on the new iPhone 5.
Camera
Some users are acquiring the iPhone 5 only for its 8 MP camera! That’s another ‘wow’ feature on this Apple device, undoubtedly. Using iOS 6, you can now take panoramic shots with the iPhone 5. All you need to do is tap the shutter and pan the camera around the desired location that you want to capture. The camera may not be a huge improvement when you take indoor shots. However, the high contrast shots have been improved, when the iPhone is stacked up against its rivals.
For recording, the camera performs well to produce high definition videos. Slow panning in bright light yields good results for landscape and outdoor settings. According to experts, the new Apple smartphone arguably makes for a combo of smartphone and portable camera.
The iPhone 5 is already a hit among smartphone lovers despite facing some initial criticism. It offers high speed internet browsing and also makes for a portable camera. It comes in three variants of 16/32/64 GB. The incorporation of a new processor and CPU has made the smartphone faster than before. The latest 4G technology is also available. By and large, it’s a significant improvement and iPhone lovers would love to explore this new device.
Part two of my iPhone 5 assessment for CNNMoney's tech section covers this gadget's performance on Verizon's LTE service and various WiFi networks, its A6 processor and the upgraded camera. I'd like to know if I'm too hard on the last aspect; do you find this takes significantly better photos than other new high-end smartphones?
