Ipswich Illumination elongated: In an effort to keep crowds small, Ipswich Illumination will be scheduled over six weekends and no events will be scheduled or advertised #IpswichMA

IPSWICH — One of the town’s favorite events has been forced to adapt — but not give up — by the pandemic.

Ipswich Illumination, which attracted thousands over two weekend nights last year, has been stretched out over six weekends.

“It’s just taking shape so it’s still plastic and malleable,” Kerrie Bates, the town’s ReCreation Director, told the Ipswich Business Roundtable Tuesday morning.

Events on Friday were concentrated on the area between town hall and Town Wharf.

The opening of the art show drew a record crowd and many, many more thronged the Wharf to see the band, watch painters and the fire juggler, drink beer and run around.

IPSWICH — Normally a Saturday-evening event, Ipswich Illumination has added a second night of festivities on Friday, Oct. 4.
