Water: Primarily used as a solvent in cosmetics and personal care products in which it dissolves many of the ingredients that impart skin benefits, such as conditioning agents and cleansing agents. Water also forms emulsions in which the oil and water components of the product are combined to form creams and lotions.
Cetyl Alcohol: Works as an emollient, emulsifier, thickener and carrying agent for other ingredients contained in a cosmetic solution. It keeps the oil and water parts of an emulsion from separating, and gives products good spreadability. As a thickening agent and surfactant, it helps alter the viscosity and increase the foaming capacity of non-aqueous and aqueous solutions. It is often misinterpreted as an "alcohol" related to ethyl or rubbing alcohol, both of which can be extremely drying to the skin. The truth, in fact, is quite the opposite, as cetyl alcohol is well known to effectively condition and soften the skin and hair. Because of its multi-functional capabilities.
Cetrimonium Chloride: Mainly used to prevent static and build-up in the hair. It can also cleanse the skin/hair and eliminate odor by preventing the growth of microorganisms, and by enabling water to mix with dirt and rinse it away. In addition, by reducing the surface tension of other ingredients and working to distribute and suspend insoluble solids in liquid, it helps form emulsions.
Stearyl Alcohol: A naturaly fatty alcohol derived from stearic acid, coconut oil or vegetable fatty acids, and is used to soothe and soften as a conditioning agent and as an emulsifier. It can also be used to thicken formulas, adding body and viscosity.
Cetearyl Alcohol: Helps two or more liquids, that don't usually combine to form a single liquid; often referred to as an ‘emulsion'
Paraffinum liquid (Mineral Oil): Skin replenishing and are also among the most effective, established moisturizing ingredients available.
Dimethicone: A type of silicone, forms a permeable barrier that works to prevent moisture loss and impart a wonderfully silky feel.
Cyclopentasiloxane: Lightweight silicone with a silky, slippery feel that functions as a skin/hair conditioning agent.
Cyclohexasiloxane: A silicone. Primarily works as a skin conditioning agent and emollient. Like all other silicones, this ingredient has a unique fluidity that makes it easily spreadable. When applied to the skin, it gives a silky & slippery feeling to the touch and acts a mild water repellent by forming a protective barrier on the skin. It can also fill in fine lines/wrinkles, giving the face a temporary “plump” look.
Hydroxyethylcellulose: A plant-derived amino acid used as a preservative, emulsifier, binder and thickener. It’s a water-soluble polymer that provides colloid protection and can be thickened or thinned. It is not beneficial in itself to the skin, but is a widely used ingredient because of its ability to serve many purposes
Glycerin: A naturally occurring ingredient (also synthetically made) that balances the water levels in skin to facilitate moisture. Helps to retain water to lock in moisture.
Petrolatum: Vaseline is pure petrolatum, and petrolatum is a rich emollient and FDA-approved skin protectant. It is one of the best ingredients for dry to very dry skin, including around the eyes. Although derived from crude oil (thus making petrolatum a natural ingredient), it is highly purified prior to being used in cosmetics, so there’s no risk of exposure to unwanted chemicals. Can help replenish, soothe and beautifully moisturize skin’s outer layer. It’s widely considered safe and highly effective.
Behentrimonium Chloride: Helps to make hair feel soft, smooth and supple.
Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil: Contains botanical ceramides used to protect and moisturize skin. Contains significant amounts of all the essential amino acids and is a good source of protein. It is derived from soybean amino acids and is rich in protein, minerals and vitamins, especially vitamin E. As well as for skin conditioning and skin firming because it is a natural emollient and moisturizer.
Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter: Extracted from the nuts of the karité tree, this emollient is naturally rich in vitamins and antioxidants.
Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil: A skin softener and conditioner used in formulations as an emollient; rich in protein and vitamins.
Hydrolyzed Keratin: Eliminates frizz, smooths the hair cuticle, and straightens the hair.
Panthenol (Vitamin B5): Member of the B complex family of vitamins. A moisturizing humectant and emollient.
Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E): Used as an antioxidant and skin conditioner.
Disodium EDTA: Used as a chelating, meaning it prevents ingredients in a formula from binding with trace elements (mainly minerals) that can be present in water.
Methylchloroisothiazolinone: Protects products from growing bacteria, yeasts and mold.
Methylisothiazolinone: Protects products from growing bacteria, yeasts and mold.
Olea Europaea (Olive Oil): Antioxidant-rich, emollient oil; helps fight damage caused by free radicals to protect, condition, and seal moisture into skin without clogging pores.
Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil: Antioxidant, emollient oil extracted from the nut of the argan tree, a species of hearty vegetation endemic to North Africa.
Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil: An antioxidant that helps fight damaging free radicals that can cause premature signs of aging.
My Thoughts:
I received this in my March 2016 Ipsy bag. It comes in a blue squeeze tube that is always full of air no matter how much I use it. Its kind of a bad thing, because I don’t really know if I am at the end of the products life. The texture is creamy and smells of oatmeal. For the first half of the bottle I only used it prior to blow drying my hair. I would get a nickel size amount then spread it evenly through my hair, and blow dry it out. I found it protected my hair from the heat and helped blow dry my hair faster than not using at all product. With this method it did blow dry my hair pretty straight however it didn’t reduce any frizz. But it did create a lot of volume just with a lot of frizz!
However I was determined with this product to reduce the frizz. So the next method I tried was using a nickel size before and after a blow out. Yes using it twice does waste the product but it was the only way to reduce the frizz. If I used more than two nickels I would find that my hair would get greasy faster each day I didn’t wash my hair. With this method I found myself not wanting to straighten or curl my hair afterward because, a blow out was just as good by itself. My hair felt and looked thicker, by the end of the night it wasn't weighed down. The ends weren’t dry and brittle instead the ends felt hydrated. I found with this creamy product I was able to prolong not having to use dry shampoo the next day, I could even go without it on the second day if i was feeling lazy. On the 4th day I do have to wash my hair because it started to feel greasy and weigh down. With this method I was able to get all the benefits with the first method plus a reduction in frizz.
Would I purchase Marc Anthony True Professional Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco 3 Day Smooth Perfect Blow Dry Cream with my own money? Of course it has a lot of great benefits for a cheap price!
