they meet in kakashi’s science class, when they are teamed up with naruto for a semester long project that was worth the majority of their grade. they had vague recollections of seeing each other in the halls in middle school (sakura moreso, since he was so cute and handsome) but never really talked until freshman year. she and sasuke ended up doing most of the work since naruto was so lazy or clueless (or so clumsy they didn’t trust him handling fragile things) and met up outside school to work on the project. they bonded quite nicely.
everyone knows they’re into each other within the first year since their official meeting. they are both relentlessly teased about it; sakura more openly by most of their friends, sasuke only with naruto and kakashi since everyone else gets the most threatening kind of stare LOL.
despite that, nothing ever happens until the summer before senior year. they share their first kiss, and it’s so nice and sweet. they spend the rest of the summer quietly enjoying each other’s company, sometimes holding hands and sharing more kisses, most often just leaning against each other. their friends don’t know anything.
they don’t quite start actually dating until about a month after their senior year starts.
sasuke campaigns sakura for valedictorian, despite knowing it would be a really nice touch to his college resume and how sakura could have certainly managed without it, simply because he knew it had been her dream since long before he met her.
while everyone else seemed to plan losing their virginity on some cliche special occasion of sorts (for hinata and naruto, it was prom night), sasuke and sakura’s first time happened during the weeks before finals after a night of thorough studying, when the mood just felt so right.
sakura got really sad with every day graduation approached because she knew they were going their separate ways, and it didn’t take long for sasuke to figure out why. he didn’t confront her about it, but was quick to reassure her by casually bringing up how his brother told him the other day that he was going to give him his car as a graduation present, and it’d be nice if he could come up to visit her every weekend or two if that wasn’t too much. she wasn’t sad or scared about their future anymore. they’d make it.
