The American Way || Steve and Jane
Americans were rude. The brunette had come all the way from London, gathered all her studies, made an appointment and now they simply rejected her without even listening. What an awful, awful thing to do, how could they! She had worked so hard--- A deep sigh escaped her lips before she rubbed her eyes, sitting down on the stairs in front of the building and placing al her bags of paperwork beside her. Jane wasn't exactly sure of what to do now anymore. Should she go back to London with no results at all or try again.. Was it even of use..

Brooklyn, New York, 1939.
She slipped out of the front door of the small home with ease. Long had her mother been asleep in her upstairs bedroom, and her siblings for even longer. She stepped down the three steps outside of the front door, making sure her dress didn't flare up in the surprisingly chilled wind, and called for a taxi.
It was a swing club she hadn't visited yet. It was new, up-and-coming, and it was supposed to be one of the best spots around the area. After paying the driver with a generous tip, she climbed from the taxi and into the cold air, once again being reminded of how the comfortable October weather had dissipated when November came.
The sweet, warm notes of Moonlight Serenade could be heard from inside the building, and the enticing thought of dancing to the song caused the girl to nearly run inside. She composed herself enough to enter with dignity, however, and quickly began to scan the dance floor and surrounding areas for a partner.
i Before she had the chance, she caught the sound of an angry conversation taking place near the door, and her curiosity forced her to listen.
"Oh, c'mon, Steve," a tall, tan-skinned man said to a much smaller, paler man beside him. The smaller man - Steve, she presumed - looked dreadful, as if he'd been sick, and as if he wished to be anywhere but there. "It won't be that bad," the tall man continued, though Steve look more unconvinced by the second. The tan man grabbed Steve by the shoulder polayfully, dragging him into the building further, ordering drinks from the small bar in the corner. They both took seats at the bar, and she found herself moving to do just the same.
Perhaps it was boredom. Maybe it was her curiosity reaching new levels. She didn't care, really. They were different from the others, somehow, and she wanted - needed, even, for all her childish thoughts - to get to know them, if only for a little while.
"Hey, fellas," she said with a smile, sitting next to the tan man, who was now in the middle of the newly-formed trio. The tanned man smiled, greeted her politely, but then was distracted by another girl calling his name from the dance floor. He excused himself to go to her, and Amy turned her attention to Steve. "And three turned to two."

"Give me a second...." she called out when she heard lab doors open. Frowning slightly as she calculated the numbers once more and then added a few drops to the vial next to her she looked up and froze. "Mr. Rogers, sir. I'm so sorry...." she quickly apologised and nearly knocked over the vial with her hand.
