Hello, I love how your yuna gunner cosplay came out! How did you approach the construction of the side skirt? I been trying to figure out how to go about the measurement to get that effect of it slightly getting wider towards the bottom. Thank you!
Thanks a lot! The sewing of the actual side skirt is very simple actually, its the pleating and dyeing that’s the nightmare.
The type of pleating this skirt has is called is broomstick pleating or mushroom pleating, which is basically a fancy and technical way of wringing your fabric permanently so it stays crunched then sewing that into the waist-tie. This is what gives the skirt the texture AND the volume that is game-accurate.
You will want to dye the skirt after you’ve pleated it, since it will make the amount of fabric you have to deal with more manageable to hold and dunk to achieve the gradient. Unfortunately, that means you’ll have to find a balance or technique on how to dye the skirt without disturbing or unsetting the pleats you’ve made. However this is achieved will depend on what fabric type and pleating technique you chose. I hope this helped, and good luck!
**Also, if you are interested, I’m willing to sell the skirt that I have photos of on this blog as I actually ended up remaking it and never wore the original! (I did take the white lace off of it so you would need to add that on your own) You can PM me for more details**
