Iris left the house, and let her feet take her away. She realised she’d walked to the local park before long.
The clouds were beginning to fade, the rain a light drizzle. If things went well, it would be a nice day.
But not for me...

Iris left the house, and let her feet take her away. She realised she’d walked to the local park before long.
The clouds were beginning to fade, the rain a light drizzle. If things went well, it would be a nice day.
But not for me...
It turns out, it can take some months for your heart to heal.
The following 4 months were a blur, and somehow Iris made her way through it. Not without suffering. Her heart sitll ached, but she vowed to move on.
It felt felt like an eternity for Iris to sleep. Her pillow was damp from the constant flow of tears, and her throat raw from sobbing. Drifting in and out of sleep for hours on end, she lost track of time. How long would she feel this way?
“Get out.” Iris finally breathed. “I never want to see you again.”
Don straightened, and hesitated a moment. Apparently he’d never been turned down before.
“GET OUT!” The tears tumbled down her face uncontrollably, and the sobs took her. She didn’t see him leave, but she heard the sound of the front door closing.
“You led me on, Don. I wouldn’t have let this happen if I knew you were dating my boss! If you’d told me you had a girlfriend!” The pain was beginning to turn to fury, and Iris wasn’t about to hold back.
“I don’t recall you complaining when you came to my house, or here, or at the Bluffs...”
Iris looked in disbelief. How could he be so cocky about this? He truly didn’t care.
“I think Yumiko deserves to know-”
“And then what?” Don cut in quickly. “I highly doubt you’ll stay the day at work if you told her. I imagine that’ll go down well.”
“Your wedding. You’re going to marry Yumiko, right?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Don looked away, avoiding eye contact. He withdrew again, and was in flat denial.
“Don. I work with Yumiko. She’s my boss.” The words came spilling out. “I know.”
Don snapped his gaze back to Iris, his cheeks beginning to flush red.
“You told Yumiko?” He all but growled at Iris.
“No, I didn’t. She told me about the proposal.” Iris paused, her voice beginning to break. “And I had to act happy. Pleased for her, not like we’d been fucking about for months. How could you lie to me? To her?”
“It just sort of happened.” He shrugged. “I didn’t think anything would really come of this.”
“You asked me out! How could you not think anything would happen?!”
Iris noticed now, how he naturally led her towards the bedroom. He was only here for one thing.
“So.” She started, before it could go any further. “Are you looking forward to your wedding?” She saw he wasn’t truly here, and the question brought him to the room. There was a moment of hesitation, and a small twitch on his lip before his cocky expression melted away.
“My what?”
Iris invited Don over, she didn’t give any inclination that she knew until he arrived.
The small talk was the same, he had no idea that she knew. It was time to nip this in the bud.
