Iris has always been the black sheep of her family. She wasn't overly close to her siblings, and often times she felt left out by them. Iris was different though, she was quieter, more independent, and more adventurous. Iris could sit and read her stories for hours. She loved books, of any kind. The magical fairytale she read, the muggle fairytales, the nonfiction magical and muggle books, any type of literature. Iris found it interesting how a person could take 26 letters, and make them into something incredible. Iris always had a knack for adventuring though, or exploring if you will. Many a times she'll be listening to music of some sort when she goes out exploring. Never was she one to just sit in one place contently, she would wander around Diagon Alley, many times worrying her parents half to death with the way she disappeared. It wasn't unusual to see her picking up snakes, or other wild creatures, she had quite the connection with animals of all kinds.
There's a fearless nature inside of her. When it comes to foods and things of that nature she's always willing to try new things. Iris played by herself a lot, and she tended to play pretend with all the stories she had read. When it came to the guests at the Leaky Cauldron, she was well mannered and kind to them. She didn't go out of her way to talk to them, but every once in a while she'd have an interesting conversation with someone. Iris has always been honest though. She doesn't sugar coat things, and she isn't afraid to tell people how it is. Generally she's kind about it, but if asked for her opinion she'll give you an honest one.
Iris's relationship with her parents has always been good. Her Dad tells her stories when she asks, or lets her help garden with him. Her mother lets her help when she's running the Leaky Cauldron, and they've always had a very open relationship. She idolizes both her parents, but for different reasons. She's always seen her father as brave, kind, and caring. He's always been compassionate, passionate, and understanding. Iris loves hearing her about her father's life, and finds it to be incredibly intriguing. She's always seen her mother as gentle, strong, and loving. Not a day goes by that her mother doesn't remind their family exactly how much she loves them, and how thankful she is for them. Iris loves to spend time with them, and loves to do things that involve them. It's something that she's always loved. All she ever wanted to do was make them proud of her, make them see that she was more than just their youngest child. Iris wanted to be as great as they were, and still are.
Thinking about her relationships with her siblings pains her. She want to be close to them, she wants to have a strong relationship with them, but she doesn't. They're very different, and in all honesty at times it upsets her that she's the black sheep. Iris tries not to kick up a fuss, or be upset about it, but even she has a hard time denying that it hurts her. That being said, she doesn't go out of her way to fix it. She doesn't try to connect with them on things, and she finds that maybe it's just better to leave it alone. Iris doesn't blame them by any means, it's just the way things are.
As soon as the three Longbottom children boarded the train to Hogwarts, Iris separated from them. She made new friends with some of other first years at them time. During the ride, Iris got reconnected with childhood friends Albus Potter and Rose Weasley. Though a year older than her, she had been friends with them for quite some time, and so it was nice to be able to catch up. They filled her in about Hogwarts, and how things worked. When she was finally able to sit on the stool, the hat took nearly five minutes to place her, debating between Hufflepuff and Gryffindor. In truth Iris would have been happy with either, she found all the houses to be enjoyable. After their rather lengthy conversation, the hat decided on Gryffindor, and Iris took a seat with the rest of her house, with a pleased smile on her face. She figured she would fit in quite nicely.
There was no doubt that she belonged there. The once quiet and shy child, found a bit of a voice. She wasn't loud, she wasn't over opinionated, but she wasn't afraid to speak up when she found it necessary. She stood up for the people she cared about, and even the strangers she didn't know. While Iris still has the independent, reserved bits in her, she also has new traits. Iris has become more outgoing, more sociable. Her adventurous and daring sides have been brought even more. Iris found a family in her house, not to replace the one she has at home, but to just add onto it. In truth, Iris has never been happier than she is right now.
