How would one describe the smell of books? The timeless aroma of paper and ink that can melt the heart of any reader. Would he describe it in terms of words relating to the physical realm? New books smell synthetic and crisp—a promise of fresh adventure. Old books... musty, like the sigh of an aging forest. Or perhaps he would describe them in terms of the emotions they provoke. Excitement, comfort, nostalgia...
As Klaus roamed the Leuda library, his mind grasped at the answer to this question, for he would need to know what the scent was before he could capture it. A perfume that smelled like books. While sure that such a product had no destiny of becoming a best-seller, he could think of at least one person who might be interested. Lips quirked upward at the thought of his old friend, and finally widened into a smile when he spotted her.
Iris.
It really had been too long since they saw each other last. He hoped that his impromptu visit wouldn’t be met with rejection. She was at work, after all, and a busy woman. But he had to make at least an attempt for her time. As he approached her desk, he made sure to catch her gaze before pausing and straightening his back. When one was vying for the attention of a beautiful woman, one had to outcast the use of typical techniques.
“Between these shelves I walk and wander As my eyes befall, I stop to ponder If the lady-lass with golden hair Who sits a-throne the library chair Would grant and gift and bestow on me Her company for coffee or tea.”
