“Fifty? Are there really that many ways to cook a potato?” Leon asked, genuinely interested. “I mean like, I guess according to that chubby dude in Lord of the Rings, there are at least...three.”

Boiled, mashed, and stewed. He’d had the ‘privilege’ of sampling all three preparations and wasn’t terribly impressed by any of them, but he wasn’t about to blame the poor potatoes for that.

“Would any of those other forty-seven recipes pair well with rice pudding, by any chance?”

“I know he’s not a child and I don’t mean to make it look like I think that. I just worry about him.” She sighed softly, might as well explain some things to him.

“Look, I don’t know how much you know about us and if Arthur gets upset about what you learn then tell him it’s my fault. Hugh and I did not have the best relationship with Arthur when we were younger, Hugh had it worse but I was just as bad. It took years for me to even look at him again, let alone talk to him.”

She chuckled bitterly before sighing again. “Maybe it’s because we’ve been so broken apart that those common sibling things like being protective of one another are surfacing now but I just don’t want to see Arthur as he was back then. I do want him to be happy and don’t want to see him hurt anymore, Hugh and I did enough of that to last him a lifetime.”

Ludwig lsitened to her words, which did really touch him. He knew that they didn’t have good relationships with each other, but didn’t know how bad it really was. “I see.” He sighed. “Family bonds are just sometimes hard to maintain in a positive way. I got some experience with that too.” 

“I can understand your protectiveness for Arthur, he’s your little brother after all. I know how that feels. But like I said I don’t want to hurt him. I too want him to be happy and that’s what I’m gonna try to achieve.”

“I didn’t think that!” He absolutely did, though now he is scolding himself for even thinking someone as lovely as Ena would even do that. She isn’t such a person, isn’t that why he likes her? “I mean...  I guess they may not. Does that mean I will meet a bunch of other nations being at your place?”
