wait, i have a SERIOUS question about them there rules in canada......exactly HOW MUCH do you pay for butter?! (ugh for real tho i hate when my fellow americans are like "NO OUR SYSTEM IS BETTER THAN CANADA/EUROPE/(insert country of choice that has higher taxes but free healthcare and generally the same civil rights)"- like, dude. what i would GIVE to not have to hand over my soul every time i have to go to the doc's office. the things my poor parents have had to go through with my oldest bro-_-

My dudette, butter is around $2-$3 bucks cheaper in the States. The average stick of butter in Canada is around $4 salted/unsalted. Unsalted is usually more expensive on top of that. Canadians pay a lot more for diary because Canadian Farmers are protected by the government from competition so they can basically charge what they want. Therefore, it isn’t weird to hear about those of us close to the border going over to get cheap diary every so often. I mean, if you are buying a bunch you can potentially save hundreds of dollars. It’s kind of why we look at recipes made in the states that have shit like- three kinds of cheese, heavy cream and etc and go- welp- $50 bucks later…

As I said yesterday, Canada is by no means a utopia. We have social, cultural, racial, etc issues the same as everywhere. But it blows my brain when Americans go after the concept of universal health care. Everyone in Canada pays basic taxes that enable those that need to be treated, to be treated, regardless of who they are or how much money they have. Everyone is entitled to care. Even if you can’t ‘pay’ for it. That is the system we have. Because we decided that getting treatment when you are stick or hurt is a BASIC HUMAN RIGHT. And if the taxes I pay are higher than what people pay in the States, well, I don’t care? I would rather have a safety net for everyone, including myself to fall into when they need it.

We kind of like our fellow man like that.

Personally, I think it is criminal- the health care system in the States.

You have a first world country that treats it’s people like a third world country.

And I stand by that.
