I was at the swimming pool today, and whilst my brother was doing some more rounds in the pool (I already did my round by that time), my mum and I were in the cafe.
I saw this kid (who’s probs around maybe 6/7/8 years old I think?) with a red iPad tablet who was with his grandma (I think?), and they were talking at the table across the table where me and my mum were seated at, ya’know just normal stuff.
It was then at this moment that I saw the kid (who again was probs around 6-8(ish) years old) unintentionally do the fascist salute *twice* 😭😭. Like lowkey that’s what my eyes were seeing fr
idk it was just crazy to see that in the open ngl. I’m just hoping the kid just didn’t know what that *particular* hand gesture actually meant and he did it by pure accident (cuz kids be kids and all) and his grandma did tell him what it *really* meant and that he’ll hopefully never do it again.
but ngl as an agnostic I have a bit of a complicated relationship with it.
I feel like cuz, even tho the point of religion is supposed to spread a good message like “don’t be a jerk, and try and be nice to people”, some certain people have twisted the words of their religion to suit their own bigoted agenda to try and spread hate towards people (especially minorities) who haven’t done anything wrong and who’s only crime (according to religious bigots anyway) is that they just exist.
I’m not saying there aren’t decent people who actually follow what their religion talks about and does try to be a decent person, but the fact that certain groups that “claim” to represent what their religion stands for but instead twist the words of their religion in order to spread harm and hatred just…idk it just makes my relationship to religion kinda distant, if that makes sense?
again, I’m talking from my own personal perspective here. I’m not trying to say that religion itself is useless or anything like that (in fact some people do find comfort in it in times of need, and good for them I say), idk I suppose I’m just talking about it in the wider context and stuff, ya’know existentialism and shit.
In Glasgow, there was this bookshop which sold mostly sci-fi, fantasy & horror books.
Me and my dad visited there twice, the first time for a lil look around (and also me trying to restrain getting an obligatory AuDHD compulsive purchase lol), then the second time (after a walk around the town which we were in) cuz I actively failed in trying to restrain my obligatory AuDHD compulsive purchasing and eventually bought a book. There were some books of interest that I thought about buying but then thankfully I managed to somewhat restrained myself slightly more from buying almost all the books there lmao (books such as “Black Flame” by Gretchen Felker-Martin and “Rebecca” by Daphne du Maurier really intrigued me), so I only bought 1 book.
The book in this case was Robert Aickman’s “Cold Hand in Mine” (partly cuz I really wanna read more anthology books/short story collections (especially the horror and gothic genre), but mostly cuz Reece Shearsmith was featured in the foreword of the book, and obviously if Reece is in something, I must see/buy it lol)
My dad & I then went to the checkout and we had a nice chat with the cashier there. The cashier was called Philip, and we talked many different things, such as us (me and dad + the rest of my family) being in Scotland for the first time, and my dad asked Philip about the other places in Scotland that we could visit and Philip was a lovely chap and told us about the different and wonderful places in Scotland we could visit. We also talked about how the different accents in Scotland were quite different, like for example the accents in Edinburgh are a bit lighter compared to Glasgow where the accents are a bit thicker.
I told Philip that the film “Trainspotting” (1996) was filmed in Glasgow (even tho the film took place in Edinburgh lol) and Philip was like “oh yeah that’s cool :))”.
I also told Philip that he kinda looked like Scottish comedian Limmy (cuz he did genuinely look a bit like Limmy lol), and Philip appreciated the compliment and said smth like “aww thank you, I get that all the time :)). People come up to me and do say “oh my god is that Limmy 🤯🤯?!?!” and stuff :))” , and then I asked him if he did meet Limmy, to which he said yes and then he showed me and my dad a photo of him with Limmy at a book-related event (probably for Limmy’s book at the time, idk which one tho lol I didn’t look at the photo clearly to see which one it was lol, probably Limmy’s autobio but not sure) and i was like “omg you’re so lucky!! That’s gotta be your proudest achievement fr!!” and Philip was like “fr yeah :))”
I was a bit worried we were disturbing Philip’s time , so I asked him “oh yeah, hopefully we’re not annoying you” and fortunately Philip was cool and was like “no no, you’re not annoying me, i like to chat :))” and I was like “phew 😮💨”
After that, we said goodbye to Philip, and then we went off.
That’s my personal highlight from my Scotland holiday.
I was watching 2 promo vids of the new SNL UK cast the other day, and as to be expected, there were the usual Negative Nancys in the comments who were complaining about (a) it wasn’t funny (I mean it was literally just a promo vids, what were they expecting? ofc comedy’s subjective and all but still you guys gotta wait until the show at least gives an *actual* taste of what it’s gotta give off, m’kay?) and (b) the fact that the SNL UK cast was mostly full of new faces that *they* personally didn’t recognise and that they wished their (already pretty well established) faves was instead in the new cast. Thankfully the negative comments were like a few but still.
like, ok fine people are allowed to be a lil bit sceptical of the show for whatever reason, fine whatevs.
But complaining about the show for having new young comedic people that a person doesn’t recognise and wishing (x) already well known comedic person was in it instead is a lil bit stupid imo. Like first of all, most if not all ALL sketch shows had well known comedy people who, before they became well known, were relatively unknown at the time, and being in a sketch show(s) essentially helped in making them well known to the audience. Ofc they have appeared in the odd comedy spot or 2, or well most known in the stand up circuit and whatnot, but the point still stands. Hell, even the OG SNL cast were relative unknown before they started in SNL lol.
like, don’t people want new creative talent in the british comedy industry other than the well established people? isn’t that what you want?
again, comedy is subjective at the end of the day and people are allowed have an opinion, but still it’s a bit silly imo to believe that SNL UK won’t be good cuz there’s a few younger faces that a person doesn’t recognise lol.
Honestly yesterday was not so good lol. Well, mostly lol. First of all, I have a sore throat (don’t know why it happened in all honesty, even tho it’s March lol. Probs it’s a viral infection of some sorts). Second of all, cuz of my viral infection of some sorts, I vomited at least 2x times between 2(ish) hours (which was not at all pleasant lol). Thankfully it seems to be getting somewhat better today (tho unfortunately the sore throat’s still there lol). I’m not shivering as much I as I did like the other day, so it’s getting somewhat better lol.
But hey, at least I didn’t get to go to college yesterday at least so that’s a bonus lol. Plus I got to watch “Weird : The Al Yankovic Story” (2022) yesterday which deffo made my illness somewhat bearable lmao. Weird Al almost always makes things better <33
Honestly there’s some cringe things I did on Reddit that I really regret and deffo wish I didn’t do in the first place lmao, but now I have to live with the cringe of ever doing said cringe things on Reddit
if it means anything, I got to do the album cover for a local niche band (specifically for their new upcoming album, which is basically a prog rock/funk/fusion genre sorta thing) in my area as part of my work experience! (also if my album cover gets potentially picked as the official album cover for said local niche band, I might get a cash prize out of it, which is extra cool fr :D!!)
I did get help from my mum’s friend (who is a professional illustrator & graphic designer herself) in terms of how to even do an album cover (especially a digital one) in the first place (especially using the more complicated tools on Photoshop lol) which did make the experience all the more worthwhile and I deffo learnt a lot from it fr
Fellas, is there a word for a specific type of “performative parasocial relationship” ?
Like as in, I’m performatively parasocial in the sense that I like talking about public figures like in a “teehee they’re so silly UwU <33” kinda way, I read a couple of RPF fanfic sometimes, I make cutesy edits about them, I ship 2 or more public figures together (again in a “ohh they’re so cute and silly together <33) etc etc, but like I’m aware of ✨the illusion✨ as it were (as in, I know it is just that, parasocial. I do not actually know these people, and vice versa, like it’s not like I’m going to the pub with them, cuz they are in a different public position than I am, and that’s ok. Also I don’t treat their spouses/partners like shit cuz it would be absurd to do so, like just cuz I sometimes fancy a public figure doesn’t mean I actually really want to be with them, ya’know? Anyways, I’m happy that they’re happy with their spouses/partners 👍❤️)
