Rhod training to be a rugby coach in Work Experience 6x03
if it means anything, I got to do the album cover for a local niche band (specifically for their new upcoming album, which is basically a prog rock/funk/fusion genre sorta thing) in my area as part of my work experience! (also if my album cover gets potentially picked as the official album cover for said local niche band, I might get a cash prize out of it, which is extra cool fr :D!!)
I did get help from my mum’s friend (who is a professional illustrator & graphic designer herself) in terms of how to even do an album cover (especially a digital one) in the first place (especially using the more complicated tools on Photoshop lol) which did make the experience all the more worthwhile and I deffo learnt a lot from it fr
"You need someone with more experience for cofee?" - Eddie Diaz
Oh buddy don't get me started...
The classic "Nobody wants to work these days" complaint but directed at employers who all want a new hire with a ton of work experience and training and none of which are willing to be the ones to provide said work experience and job training.
I know I don’t usually do personal text posts, and it is very late over here + I have work in the morning, but I really just felt like I needed to share this lmao.
I was at my job a few weeks ago (I work as a barista), and someone comes in; I recognize them from one of my classes. I was always nervous to talk to them since they dress cool, and I’m very awkward with compliments.
I notice that they have an ita bag with them.. with multiple Pierrot pins. I never see TFC fans in real life, so I immediately comment on their bag. We talked about TFC for 5 minutes straight before I realized I was at work and that I needed to give people their coffee.
I got their phone number and we’ve been talking ever since! I don’t know why I was so scared to talk to them lmao, they’re so nice!
I should really get to bed now..
Ahem, since it's International Women's Day I thought it was pertinent to share this heinous interaction I had around a few years ago when I worked as a waitress at a restaurant — a job I was absolutely godawful at.
I despised being a waitress. I didn't have a "customer service" face, I didn't know how to properly communicate, and my boss hated me. It was around the end of the night when my colleague tapped me on the shoulder and handed me a dessert, explaining that the lady of [table number] was celebrating her business and I had to go congratulate her with the dessert... so I did. I sheepishly made my way to the table, dessert in hand, smile painfully fake, and presented it to the woman and her husband. I worked this job on autopilot because I was often dissociating during it. Without a second thought, I opened with, "I heard you were celebrating your business. Wow...
It's so great women are allowed to work!"
Crickets.
I felt my words vibrate through my core like an echo in a cave, the utterly painful, gobsmacked, worrisome expressions on this woman's and her husband's faces, my sheer mortification likely palpable as I felt my cheeks heat up in a fluster before I excused myself and walked off to hide behind the refrigerators. I felt completely humiliated, as if I was going to sink into the ground and die right there. I avoided that table for the rest of the night and hid in the back when they came to the register.
Anyway, happy International Women's Day.
