"How you feeling?"
Clint groaned. Just about every single place in his body either ached or was flat out in pain. He felt the semi-familiar sensation of a hospital bed underneath him. If he was in the hospital, why was he in so much pain? He had been here for less than this, and they usually had him constantly on pretty heavy painkillers he protested. This time, he really wouldn't mind some though.
He slowly blinked open his eyes, then turned over to the sound of the voice to his left. It took him a little while to process what it said. How you feeling
"I feel... like I... fell.. outta.. window. or ten..." Clint mumbled.
"How do you accidentally buy sixty birthday cakes?”
"I--I don't know!" Steve said, gesturing at the truly excessive stack of cakes in the kitchen. "I asked for six because--well, whatever, but then when I came back, they..."
He ran a hand over his face, hardly believing he'd been roped into this--and all by his own fault, too.
"I couldn't just tell them I didn't want the other 54..."
▼- Our muses in a broken elevator.
Jemma was standing in the elevator, which was empty except for one other person who was standing in the corner on the other side from her. She usually takes the stairs, but the floor she needed to get was ten floors above her, and she was already running a little late. The button for her floor, 25, was glowing brightly, along with the stranger's floor, six above her's.
She had her eyes glued to the display up to that showed their current floor, taping her toes a little impatiently. Come, come on... she thought to herself, anxiety high as the display went from 19 to 20 and a little ding! rang out. A few seconds later, the lights in the elevator dimmed out and the machine itself jolted to a sudden stop. The backup lighting, which wasn't anywhere near as bright, switched on.
"Oh no." Jemma moaned, of all the times for an elevator to ever break down on her, this had to be the absolute worst.
