ok so the thing that's so cute about early berena scenes is that from the off (and long before we get to anything romantically inclined) serena's developing this huge girl crush on bernie, where she's all 'let's go for a drink! let's get coffee! can i hang out with you?!' and effectively she ends up idealizing and idolizing bernie to the extent that she's creating her own fantasies about bernie's life, particularly around the divorce (serena: 'they do make [divorce] look surprisingly easy' ric: 'don't be naive, serena. it's never easy' - and 'no-one's lied; no-one's betrayed what you had, have they?').
And then when she discovers that bernie has lied it's all of a sudden 'oh. oh.' and part of what drives her crossness, i think, is the sense that the person she'd put on a pedestal has just wobbled off that pedestal.
